I don't disagree with almost anything you're saying but I do absolutely think that the problem here is mostly care
For sure though I don't think those are the main problems I would suggest with our current team dynamic.
Well they aren't even formal teams which doesn't help that!
Sure but I don't really think politicians should need to be forced to be good on key issues. Sure if you think that politicians will do whatever they can get away with that makes sense but then I'm not compelled by that politician.
Not sure it's that
Team transit :)
Just exasperated with transit in Toronto and Ontario, depressed, I care so so much that when I feel things are bad it's miserable
So people go "Bradford!" and I'm all for competition, but there's no point in even debating. He's at City Hall as well! And I just can't stand the disingenuous pivot, how do I know he's not going to just pivot again?
I obviously lean progressive on most issues otherwise I wouldn't have moved to Toronto from my semi rural hometown! But you also shouldn't expect someone who spends all their time thinking about public transit to say that the current shambolic state of it in Toronto is good!
During election season I've gotten a lot of progressives annoyed at me for saying that there are all these problems with transit in Toronto, but they're clearly are and have been! You can't fix everything in a single mayoral term but you absolutely could fix lots of things!
Increasingly concerned with politics that is played like a team sport and where it's expected that you're going to cheer on your team irrespective of what your team is doing
Ie no matter how much you tell people that things are going great you can pretty clearly see that that's not the case if you ever step foot on the subway which politicians I guess don't do but huge numbers in Toronto actually do.
The crazy thing about the subway slow zones being so terrible and the subway being in such a bad condition right now is that probably no other city service is as widely viewed by the public. Hundreds of thousands every day get to see the result of neglect.
I will believe we have city leadership that really cares about transit when the freaking subway signs are fixed. We've gone through several mayors in Toronto since I've lived here and none of them have fixed them. It's always more pilots that make things even worse...
It seems like more competition in municipal politics is something we really need.
The Toronto mayoral election is so disappointing. Every 4 years we have a chance to choose a new city leader who can hopefully push things forward and this time we're not being offered amazing choices, especially on transit.
Great track
