A war on walking.

A war on biking.

A war on public transit.

A war on better cities.

But a war on cars? Hardly.

The #UrbanTruth is that #CarDependency is still the norm in far too many cities, and the #RoadLobby will do everything they can to keep it going.

Don’t buy the lie.

This can’t be shared enough. The real #oil deal to get fuel prices low is to organize you don’t even need that fuel. Healthy liveable places to live.

His infamous bother, the “crack smoking Toronto Mayor” Rob Ford, first popularized the lie about a #WarOnCars to divide urban/suburban voters and rage-farm.

Now his brother Doug ramps up the real #WarOnWalking, biking and transit, weakening the city and costing everyone money and lives. #UrbanTruth

When it comes to spreading disinformation, dark money buys a lot of repetition, because repetition works.

Repetition works.

Repetition works.

Repetition works.

So WE need to be repeating the TRUTH a lot more than we do.

(Did we mention that repetition works?)

One of the biggest debates in cities is whether tall buildings are a good idea or a bad idea. Our own @brenttoderian.bsky.social obliterates that debate, while changing the perspective of one of the most vocal tall building opponents.

Listen to some badly needed #UrbanTruth about tall buildings.

“From a peak of 23,440 miles, the UK now has 9,785 miles of rail. Over 170 cities had tram systems, with nine today. British children used to walk six miles on their own, now they are lucky if they can safely walk 300 yards.” @felly500.bsky.social

“Great Britain can internalize the negative externalities of driving by expanding congestion charging, increasing the cost of parking to match its true societal cost, and by going down @gregshill.com ‘s checklist to eliminate the many laws that force society to subsidise driving.”

Important new video telling the #UrbanTruth about city streets we should never have accepted as “normal,” by our UTC collaborator @reenamahajan.bsky.social in Paris.

Please watch and share. We don’t have to keep these streets.

A #WarOnWalking.

A war on biking.

A war on public transit.

A war on any transportation choice other than driving.

A war on better cities.

But a war on cars? Hardly. Cars still get most of the space, rights, budget, prioritization, etc.

And any effort to add more choice is immediately attacked.

The WAR ON WALKING has taken many forms around the world. It’s often as simple as how we signal who space is and isn’t for. Once our eyes are opened to all the ways we’ve prioritized cars over people, we can’t unsee it. Frustrating photo contributed by @stadsplanering.bsky.social. #WarOnWalking

Never forget, when it comes to whether or not a collision happens, and whether or not someone is killed or injured, speed is ALWAYS a factor. #UrbanTruth #SpeedKills

Background shows a collision involving cars and drivers. Texting quotes says “speed wasn’t a factor” which is what police and media often say when someone wasn’t obviously speeding, even when the speed limit is too high. They tried their best to make the idea of having more things we want nearby, more options and choices in our cities and neighborhoods, seem like a conspiracy. But never forget what the REAL urban conspiracy has been — moving everything further away and making us car dependent. #1HourCityConspiracy

White text on black background reading “The real ‘urban conspiracy’ isn’t proximity, it’s distance. The ‘one hour city’ traps millions in long commutes, car dependency, and lost time. We need cities of proximity, time, and quality of life.” — @carlosmorenofr.bsky.social #UrbanTruth
