I refer you to my earlier answer. "It can't be done ethically" means DON'T DO IT. Ethics are not about convenience.

@clbennettauthor.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 12:05 PM

The problem isn't the tech, the problem is the technocrats who chose to develop it unethically instead of ethically. Technology is neither good nor bad. Only people's choices and intentions are.

That means it wasn't *just* for kids. It doesn't mean it wasn't for kids *at all.*

@clbennettauthor.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 12:39 AM

I'll never understand why people *don't* expect children's shows to be good. Don't we all have a responsibility to give our kids the best we're capable of giving them? Besides, ideally, parents should watch with their kids, so kids' shows are usually made with adults in mind too.

@clbennettauthor.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 11:21 PM

"For kids" and "for adults" are not mutually exclusive categories. It's true that TAS was written on the same level of maturity as TOS (aside from less romance & violence), but I discovered both shows when I was 5 years old, and it did me no harm.

I think that's overestimating it. I've heard that LLMs are likely to be a dead end, because they increasingly end up training on their own output, which leads to a feedback spiral into uselessness. Marketing the tech before it was proven is basically a scam, inseparable from their choice to steal.

@clbennettauthor.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 2:29 PM

I really wasn't worried about that. When I look at preindustrial fantasy universes, I always wonder what they'll be like when they reach the industrial age or the space age. AVATAR & KORRA gave us the former, and I was hoping we'd eventually see the latter in this universe, but no such luck.

You're telling that to one of the authors that Anthropic was ordered to pay a cash settlement to because they were found guilty of stealing our copyrighted work.

"It can't be achieved without committing crimes" is hardly an argument in favor of achieving it.

This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead
