You spend months organising an engaging event, bringing together the brightest minds in academia. Once the closing remarks end, that incredible knowledge and energy leaves the room.
I've come up with Conference Field Notes to help capture those conversations.

My latest piece for LSE Impact is a timely reminder, for academic social media quality is better than quantity.
It's perhaps time to rethink your strategy and not just who you connect with, but where.

Or nowhere…

Honestly this advice changed my life. "Just say ‘I disagree’." You have do that, but you don't have to do more than that. Don’t make some elaborate argument, don't call the person scum, just make it clear that you don't think like that. And get your mates to chime in, too.
Whether you need feedback on a specific project, guidance on a tool, help planning a dissemination strategy, bring your questions along. Please share with anyone involved in research projects who want to discuss how they can improve their activities, from research bid to impact gathering. 5/5
The catch? None. I’m doing this to build relationships and show what I can offer. If you want to work together on funded projects later, great, if not, you still walk away with practical solutions. If you think my advice was valuable, tell others you work with but there will be no hard sell. 4/5
I’ll also be hosting a couple of free 101 introduction sessions starting with creating data driven infographics, followed by how to create your own simple research animation. I plan to release my online half day introduction to academic podcasting course for a very limited period for free. 3/5
Bring your questions on: ● AI in research communication ● Social media (LinkedIn, Bluesky et al) ● Altmetrics ● Podcasts ● Video/animation ● Infographics ● Lay summaries and blogging ● Wikipedia and esoteric comms channels ● Research impact, ● Public engagement ● Reputation management 2/5
Over the next few months I’m going to be doing a few things for free.
Read on if you like free stuff.
The latest thing I want to share with you are 30 minute research communication advice surgeries!

Pesky emails and meetings getting in the way?
You just need to give yourself permission to duck out for 3 hours and join a community of fellow academics and PGRs.
Join me for another episode of Write Club Radio - the coolest writing retreat on the planet.
🤣
I think we need a literature review first, how's your searching and reference management skills?

My latest Under Review podcast is out.
This time it's Open Educational Resources (OERs) under the spotlight with Prof Dawne Irving Bell.
Dawne established the National Teaching Repository, so knows more about this topic than most.

Sure thing, it's be great if you could draft a proposal for the working group, with project aims and deadlines.
I'll need to form a working group first, wanna join? 🤣
Utter utter madness
We've all been in these meetings more than once in our time... Sorry... More than once in a day
