I feel like there is a pattern in #CHR2027 papers of "we engineered this LLM-based pipeline and evaluated it in service of a humanities research question, but for CHR we will only report about the pipeline." I want to hear about the humanities research question and what you learned via the pipeline!
Yep. Similar experience in my batch of four.
In contrast, for example, to metaphors about magic and fantasy, which most people will easily interpret as metaphors and not claims about the world as it is.
I’m pro-metaphor, but I think the issue with these examples (“reason,” “want”) is that many people are using those words literally and not metaphorically, and the debates about those words are debates about whether we have evidence of those behaviors, not whether they are useful as metaphors.
I wrote a blog post on "TCS, AI, and the Adults in the Room," addressed to the senior researchers and established academics in our field: minorfree.github.io/Clement/
Thanks to @hunglv.bsky.social for lending me his blog!
My support for bluesky/atproto is pretty much explicitly a "political" project. It is bad for a small number of (mostly right-wing) people to literally own all the sources of media. Open-source algorithms + the ability to move your account without negative network effects opposes this.

i forgot you’re at 4s! conferences are different, i’ll take back my non-4s notes
i know, i hate it too, but i need my notes! tried printing or using my phone and it’s too confusing 😭 i blame organizers who also want me to zoom and share screen and connect to a sound system and…
Piranesi says the world and the epistemic bubbles we actually live in are prisons and but also liberation, that the terrible limits on cognition imposed by [religion, science, devastating illness] are also protective freedoms, that amnesia is salvific but makes us brutally vulnerable to abuse.
Might also require saying words like “Elon Musk” “Mark Zuckerberg” “billionaires”
I also felt that way during the persuasion keynote.
