I appreciate that all of these guys' solutions to the mens' reading crisis is to walk up to vulnerable little boys and hand them footballs, but could we FOR ONE SINGLE SECOND stop to unpack the fact that the default definition of "masculine readers" for lots of these pundits is: "assholes"?
"If more books were published by men with explicitly masculine themes, would there actually be a wider male readership?"
This is very much in the Platnerian mode that presumes all men are only attracted to content by, for, and possibly about Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor.

Working on this reported essay, just published, increasingly took over my life for the last two months. PEN America did a terrible disservice with its sloppy reporting about American Jews and Israelis in publishing in July. Josh Lambert and I tried to do better. jewishcurrents.org/what-pen-ame...

This essay by Joseph Darda is a must-read: "[C]ollege sports can feel remote from the work of teaching and research and from other campus labor struggles. But college sports have been a laboratory for the management of academic labor...We are all student-athletes now."
