They're coveted as food when they're young and tender, especially by Asians. My mom and dad saw my gourds and both licked their lips, cartoon-wolf style. I had to be very clear that these are off limits, as my parents are known to steal veggies from my garden.

I made my first luffa dish pad! I grew the luffas, processed the gourd, cut the inner fibers, and stitched the whole thing together with a cotton yarn. It's entirely compostable. It took a lot of work, but I'm very happy with the results!

A big green luffa squash with some brown spots. I'm supposed to harvest the squash when it's brown and brittle, but I realized that the brown spots are rotting, not drying. So I had to harvest prematurely. Peeling off the green skin was a chore, but I was able to salvage all the inner fibers.A luffa pad with an edging that's blanketstitched in yarn. Reminents of luffa fibers are scattered around the table.A photo of my luffa vine sprawling along a trellis against a fence. There's still five luffas hanging out, unpicked as of yet.

I saw this video years ago, and it has informed a lot of my understanding of how plushie production works. And I am currently a professional plushie factory correspondent/technician!
