This is a gorgeous piece of writing. Come for the homeopathy metaphors and melancholic scandal, stay for the incisive commentary on Plath’s editing process and then crucially, letting the unthinkable into the room.
I wrote a long piece about the new Sylvia Plath books and the fantasies that still swirl around her, for the new @bostonreview.bsky.social www.bostonreview.net/articles/you...
Ahhh always an honor to be read by you Keegan!!!!!
it's true: to my great surprise I'm just now finishing the first draft of a book about my weird attachment to Sylvia Plath's Ariel (in dream series edited by dream editors). Stay tuned for more tomato soup cake
to be read by world historical genius Emma Heaney....a girl should be so lucky
Brilliant and beautifully written essay on the Plath emotional-cultural complex!

that is so kind - thank you so much!
This essay by @kristingrogan.bsky.social is one of the best things I’ve read in ages - such a clear map of the expanding Sylviaverse, such a masterclass in weaving together sharp reading, deep thinking, archival work, and the bigger stakes.

Huge congratulations, dear Hester! 💗💗💗
Kristin's essay understands psychoanalysis, homeopathy, rage, humor, all of the archives, poetry, and also how you get "from ordinary calamities, a cut thumb or dead father or collapsed marriage, to the camps and the bomb." It's so good, what are you waiting for?
You should right now—right now!—read @kristingrogan.bsky.social on Sylvia Plath in @bostonreview.bsky.social.
More than a review of the new definitive Plath books, more than a survey of how she's been read, it's an authoritative account of how Plath's poems work and and how we should read her.
Thank you!!
“Versions of her proliferate. There is Plath the paradigmatic sad girl; the victim of patriarchy; the witchy cult leader; the flashy American; the goody-two shoes…didn’t live to see the love letters, dedications, séances, odes, the sad Lana Del Rey lyrics…the novels and films about her.”
smashing that pre-order button
oh wow, this sounds amazing! Thank you for pointing me to this book!!
I've been reading lots about Plath while translating Lee Chia-ying's 《進烤箱的好日子》(A Perfect Day to Put your Head in the Oven) into French, and this cuts right to the core: "Plath described and wrote herself into the violence of her own century. She is now part of the record of the violence of our own."
Well done to @bostonreview.bsky.social, it’s an amazing piece of writing on #SylviaPlath.
"In the unruly space of the psyche, she teaches us, the ordinary and the horrific are dynamically bound, pushing and intruding on each other. This takes particular forms at certain points in history, when you cannot unknow certain violences."
große Empfehlung, ein Text, der lustige Passagen hat (tomato soup cake) und gegen Ende eine Wendung nimmt, die man mit offenem Mund und Taschentuch in der Hand liest
