Video games can offer 'Aha!' breakthroughs like the best mystery stories of any medium but in many games, players can idly smash through by spamming combinations. The worst games leave their 'multiple guess' dynamic too close to the surface. A shame that Ace Attorney sometimes succumbs to this.

Happy birthday to this fella, Phoenix Wright. The first Ace Attorney game was published 25 years ago today. By turns relatably sweaty and aspirationally shrewd, he might be the best sleuth in modern video games, with an impressive number of fairly solid cases to puzzle out (or brute force away).
