This newsletter for @drilledmedia.bsky.social by @amywestervelt.bsky.social is a must read for anyone interested in climate activism. My personal take is that the movement is in abeyance for all these reasons and more--(stay tuned for that article soon 🤞): drilled.media/newsletter/t...

Octopuses sense light with their whole body & taste the world as they touch it. Yet there are few laws to protect them from factory farms.

We’re racing to stop this cruel, unsustainable industry in its tracks.

An octopus in its natural ocean habitat with the text "Octopuses belong in the ocean. Help us keep them wild." The "END.IT" logo is in the top left corner.

US continues its descent into barbarism. No idea what sort of legal challenges await to try to stop this. Perhaps that's the objective, froth up the outrage and attempt to own the libs.

Progress.

Holy shit. Someone has decompiled the Adobe suite, rebuilt it in Rust and released it as open source.

Either all software is dead or the US copyright laws are about to receive an update.

Once again, Kevin squarely hits the nail on the head.

What a day!

Our clients Wendy and Tony have just won the first ever climate case to be heard by Australia’s highest court!

Such a privilege to have been able to represent them in this landmark case, which will reverberate around the world.

OAE isn’t as simple as “add alkalinity, remove CO2”

This perspective argues for a more nuanced, site-specific view: local carbonate chemistry, sediments, ecological effects and governance all shape outcomes.

Promising? Maybe. Simple or settled? Definitely not.

"a new mental climate". "a culture of resentment". Interesting and thought-provoking beyond France, what is belonging and society in today's extensively inter-connected world, and do politicians have answers - not obviously.

NEW RESEARCH: Pakistan's solar boom is one of the world's most impressive renewable deployment stories.

It is also a story about a broken grid, high electricity prices and inequality.

This is the first peer-reviewed paper to take a deep dive into it.

Well quite! But the issue there is how to manage a sovereign wealth fund, a problem the UK would like to have.

Another take is that the UK used the prodigious oil & gas reserves in the North Sea to fund large tax cuts & stimulate financial trading & services in London & South East England. Once that was spaffed away the neoliberal response was austerity. Compare that approach with Norway's.

Habitat loss no longer a problem when there is no habitat left to lose. They are playing n-dimensional chess!
