anyway i should stop posting tn, but don't forget: gradual reforms are the idealist compromise. abolition of hierarchical structures like capitalism is the reluctant necessity there are solutions out there that can be achieved in our lifetimes, only if enough people like *you* decide we need them.
And as for Gary Bowser and what copyright law always ends up leading to, see: www.theguardian.com/games/2024/f...
Anyway for a more technical breakdown of the subject I really just gotta recommend the timeless Tom Scott video on this very subject. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Jwo...
We can talk about reforms vs abolition all day long, but the fact is we've been doing reforms for over a century now, and it has not worked, and is only getting worse. Abolition of the systems that are rigged against the working class is the only solution.
Some might point to a few short-term victories, but if your rights can be erased when a new politician gets into law, those aren't actual rights. Rights are supposed to be unalterable and applicable to everyone, not something rich fucks can take away with a few years of planning.
Like I see a lot of people advocate to reform copyright and just... when has that ever worked? Truly, when has reforms in a system where the ultrarich pay off politicians to modify the law to their benefit ever actually served the working class? The answer is never.
My personal take is that copyright should be abolished alongside capitalism. Reforms are incredibly unlikely *at best,* especially with multibillion dollar lobbying groups. This isn't a matter of like just what if's or 'in an ideal world,' it's a matter of preserving lives.
In an ideal world, it'd be a way for indie creators to prevent big corporations from stealing from them. This is not the world we live in, and don't let the gentry's false promise of wealth steer you from the fact that the system is rigged against your own success.
Never forget that copyright law exists to protect megacorporations - look at how Nintendo treats Gary Bowser. There is no world in the current day-and-age where copyright protects independent artists. It's always just a hammer and cudgel for greedy megacorps to squeeze extra dimes from indies.

My latest w/ TNN. This is a piece that I hope will be inspiring for folks, especially in the current bleak times
As bleak as so much of what we face is, the organizing in this story is honestly inspiring. Unionized trans workers organizing, fighting against labor exploitation and anti-trans violence — with the support of their broader union — is a cause for hope.
Despite Seattle's reputation as a trans haven, the University of Washington has reacted to escalating attacks on trans rights with silence — even after a trans student was murdered.
But trans academic workers, unionized with UAW, are fighting back.

ICE activity has been ramping up heavily recently, keep your eyes on and don't forget about Minnesota.
just gotta say, if you sign up to be an ICE agent and be part of a agency that tears families apart and literally drags people out of their cars and kills people, you can just quit. you can always just quit.
