This is what a movement calling to #AbolishICE looks like!

Thank you to every New Yorker who showed up today for their immigrant neighbors.

⚖️Our incredible legal team quickly filed a habeas petition on behalf of the community member who was shot yesterday by ICE in the Bronx in broad daylight, with a five-year-old in the backseat. Join us at 5:30 PM at Foley Square to say loud and clear: ICE out of New York.

🧊❌What happened in the Bronx on Thursday, Oct. 8, is horrifying. Another person was shot by ICE in broad daylight, on our streets, with a 5 y.o. in the backseat. We're outraged, but not surprised.

“ICE has no place in our city. Full stop. This is an agency beyond reform. We must abolish ICE now.”

In the wake of today’s shooting of a man in the Bronx, Yaritza Mendez, Deputy Director of Make the Road New York, issued a statement on behalf of our 30,000 members. #ICEOutOfNY

"But at Dima’s September asylum hearing, DHS did not contest his claim, according to his attorney, Marlene Rodriguez of Make the Road NY. 'What we’ve been saying from the beginning—that the record was clear that he only lost asylum because of the CLP—was what ultimately won the case,' she said."

“Bianey Garcia, an organizer at Make the Road NY said the funding is necessary to meet the staggering demand for services among immigrants. 'We know that many in our community are escaping their countries because of transphobia & homophobia, so we need to create that space for our community.'"

🗳️“This midterm election is going to be one of the most consequential of our lifetime. We must keep our eyes on the polls,” said Mark Ruffalo this weekend at the Hands Off Our Vote event. Immigrant registered voters are particularly vulnerable to being targeted by ICE agents outside polling places.

“The court’s ruling is a monumental victory. It brings to an end the cruel and callous practice of arresting immigrants simply for showing up to their court hearings — something that no one should have to worry about, and yet so many were forced to live,” said Harold Solis, our co-legal director.

“'With this ruling, ICE officers cannot conduct civil immigration enforcement actions in or near immigration courthouses, except under limited circumstances, in New York City and across the nation,' Harold Solis, co-legal director of Make the Road NY, told Caribbean Life."

“We should guarantee each voter the same access to the ballot regardless of if they vote early, on Election Day or by mail. That's the fundamental right of democracy. We'll organize & educate our communities to make sure we are ready and that elections stay free and fair,” said Sonia, our member.

"Advocates fear the recent arrests of the women point to an attempt by the Trump admin to ramp up third-country deportations, with the Supreme Court slated to consider the matter later this year. It’s the latest move by the admin to sidestep protections that halt deportations for people’s safety."

In 2025, New Yorkers broke voter turnout records in both the Primary & General Elections. Let's keep building on that momentum and encourage NYers to keep making history by voting in the upcoming election. Visit nycvotes.org to register to vote, find your poll site, review voting dates & more!

“My children are voters & they are excited to vote next month. They’ll be voting with our community in mind.

We must ensure that every vote has equal access—whether by mail, early voting, or on Election Day.”

Our member Sonia said at presser w/ @handsoffnyc.bsky.social outside Farley Post Office.
