@alanmaceachern.bsky.socialSometimes you fall down a rabbit hole, sometimes you jump. Here's a just-published piece of mine on Malthus, math, & magic, in @ca.theconversation.com.

Should you be worried?

@alanmaceachern.bsky.socialAccording to this moment's version of me. A few perfect. A few imperfect but somehow more perfect for it. Breaking Bad, oddly grudgingly. And had to give a kdrama & an offbeat Aussie comedy some love.
@alanmaceachern.bsky.socialReposted by @alanmaceachern.bsky.socialSo many moving parts & last-minute scrambling to get this post up in time for Sunday's 50th anniversary of the Ark's opening. Just like the Ark's opening itself!

@alanmaceachern.bsky.socialOne of the things we do in this post is annotate & embed the transcript of a 1976 talk by Amory Lovins. Super simple to do - & pretty useful, I think. Lots of potential applications.
@alanmaceachern.bsky.socialThis is so sad. My heart goes out to Susan, Jordi, & everyone who loved Karen. She was such a warm & wise mentor to so many, including me.
@alanmaceachern.bsky.socialHey! Congratulations to @adeleperry.bsky.social on receiving the JB Tyrrell Historical Medal for outstanding work in the history of Canada.🍁

@alanmaceachern.bsky.socialThis is fun:

Today, pt. 1 launched: niche-canada.org/2026/09/14/p...
Wed, pt.2 on Energy Days.
Fri, pt.3 on the opening of the Ark, 50 yrs ago this weekend.
@alanmaceachern.bsky.socialAs beautiful a first teaching day as my very first teaching day at Western U, 25 years ago.
@alanmaceachern.bsky.socialRealizing that I'm working simultaneously on 4 small, completely distinct writing projects at the moment. Is that efficient? No. Will any of them lead to a book? No. But are they fun? Yes. Weird? A couple.
@alanmaceachern.bsky.socialReposted by @alanmaceachern.bsky.socialIn this post, I put out a call for #envhist people, places, or events that Canada should be commemorating.
Submit yours: there's a $200 prize at stake.
Deadline 14 Sept.
Details in post.
@alanmaceachern.bsky.socialYesterday, I had a 10-minute touch-up laser surgery 5 years after cataract surgery & I wish I could show you just how amazingly good my vision is. I’m going to spend all day today just looking at things.
@jimclifford.bsky.socialReposted by @alanmaceachern.bsky.social“Good-faith dialogue with people who are critically engaging with these systems is now the best way for those who refuse them to stay informed about what the technology can actually do.”
My new post for @activehist.bsky.social
@alanmaceachern.bsky.social#PEI has been there.
Or rather, not been there.
@alanmaceachern.bsky.socialTrapped in bed this morning. Oh well.
