The dinosaur is my own "Crooked Rex" model that you'll have seen a lot if you follow me. I assembled the environment and human character from Daz, Poly Haven, Megascans, & Fab marketplace assets, as well as trial and error with different snow mesh generators and particle setups.

An Encounter. (Alternative, less spooky take for the sake of showcasing my model better below)

Compare this to Metroid fans, who I rarely see complain about Samus' unmasked design retaining elements from Other M (a game widely disliked due to having major issues that aren't just "different=bad" conflation), because they know not to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Like, they'll get an alt costume that faithfully recreates a design from an older game that they worship, but they'll gutturally cry from the depths of hell because it retains the Jade necklace (which regardlesss of how you feel about TR2013, is just a good aesthetic highlight).

I've encountered a lot of miserable fandoms, but I don't think I've encountered a collective quite as addicted to their own self-perpetuated misery as certain sectors of the Tomb Raider fandom.

Raw render output vs. final grade

@sketchy-raptor.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 11:42 AM

I had to do some major Forced Perspective cheating for this compossiton to work:

Before anyone asks me about environment/integument/etc., this is in support of a fictional narrative. The Tyrannosaur is out of place and out of time. These renders were kind of a proof of concept/lookdev exercise. More to come from this soon, hopefully, maybe.

Sometimes, you'll be doing routine tinkering, and extremely cool things will happen accidentally.

Really trying to push photo-like naturalism with this scene. To fully acheive this, there will be a a fair amount of post processing work to do after the render is complete.

A sneak preview of what's cooking. The dinosaur is my own "Crooked rex" model that you'll have seen a lot if you follow me. I assembled the environment from a Poly Haven, Megascans, & Fab assets, as well as trial and error with different snow mesh generators and particle setups.

(Having each snowflake particle be rendered as a basic perforated plane allowed for much more convincing luminance and shape variation due the flakes falling at randomised angles)

@sketchy-raptor.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 8:16 PM

I'm at the point of pixel fussing, but I've settled on a decent snowfall effect in Blender. Basic icosphere particles (see those in front of the dinosaur tail) were creating overly uniform streaks. Turns out the key was actually modelling a simple snowflake (see other renders).

It's not quite there, but it's getting there (this is more of a lighting test, not the final scene)

Blocking a scene...

@sketchy-raptor.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 2:28 AM

Would kill for a Rogue Squadron game with this level of visual quality...
