The Taking Benefits from America’s Veterans Act would push millions of veterans into community care, even where private providers aren't faster or closer than VA. The risk for WORSE care is real – at the same time, this administration guts healthcare. This is dangerous for our veterans.

@democrats-veterans.house.govOct 6, 2026, 6:41 PM

VA is now projecting 24 system go-lives in 2027 and 34 in 2028. When we asked whether VA actually has the capacity to pull this off safely, we didn't get a confident answer.  Patient safety should be the top concern, not an afterthought.

The Major Richard Star Act was ready for a vote, but Speaker Johnson chose to send members home early. A majority of the House, 218 Members, has spoken; Speaker Johnson, schedule the vote.

Republicans say there's no money for veterans, but they found hundreds of billions for ICE, a war in Iran, & a ballroom.

Republicans control the House & Senate, & they've run on their support for the military & veterans, yet only 12 veterans' bills have become law this Congress. Democrats enacted 60 in the 117th, including the Honoring Our PACT Act.

As Suicide Prevention Month comes to a close, that doesn't mean the problem ends or we stop talking about it. Veterans, you are not alone, and support is available to you.

Republicans have spent their majority slashing programs that support veterans, like VASP, the one program that kept veterans housed. In the middle of an affordability crisis, Republicans are effectively taking money OUT of veterans' pockets instead of keeping it there.

The House is ready to vote on the Major Richard Star Act. But Republican leadership sent folks home after working only seven legislative days in August and September. We can't govern from home. Bring the House back into session, Speaker Johnson, so we can finally pass the Major Richard Star Act.

As yesterday was Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day we honor the families who carry the weight of their loved ones' sacrifice. We sit with you in your grief.

Between 22,000 and 30,000 veterans lost their homes in the last 18 months. Our Republican colleagues wrongfully terminated VASP, and these veterans are paying the price. The men and women who served this country are suffering because of the actions taken by this majority.

Every day, Americans are facing the rising cost of living, and veterans aren't immune. Foreclosures among veterans are climbing, fueling a rise in homelessness, while many can't get the mental health support they've earned. Instead of prioritizing veterans, Trump prioritizes billionaires.

Republicans have canceled 63 of the House's 261 scheduled voting days. And they canceled session again this week. Combat-injured veterans are waiting for the Major Richard Star Act to pass so they can finally collect their retirement and disability benefits. Bring the House back to vote.

@democrats-veterans.house.govSep 22, 2026, 2:57 PM

The Taking Benefits From America's Veterans Act never had a chance of passing because veterans & VSOs hated it. Now, Republicans have released the House for an early recess &, once again, have failed to deliver benefits to America's veterans. When will Republicans put veterans first?

@democrats-veterans.house.govSep 18, 2026, 6:46 PM

We will not forget the more than 80,000 Americans who remain unaccounted for from past conflicts. Their sacrifice is remembered, & the promise to bring them home endures.

@democrats-veterans.house.govSep 18, 2026, 6:46 PM

Today, on National POW/MIA Recognition Day, we recognize & honor the servicemembers who were held as prisoners of war & those who never made it home.

Veterans, you are not alone, and support is available. We all have a role to play in preventing veteran suicide by reaching out and checking in. For free help, call 9-8-8 and press 1 to reach the Veterans Crisis Line.

"Mr. Speaker, is it more important for Congress to leave town than for us to stay here and take care of these 59,000 combat veterans?" - Ranking Member @repmarktakano.bsky.social

@democrats-veterans.house.govSep 16, 2026, 11:07 PM

The Major Richard Star Act discharge petition finally has 218 signatures. Now's the time for Speaker Johnson to show up for the 59,000 combat-injured veterans and get a vote on the MRSA scheduled in the House.

Thank you, Rep. Nancy Mace for joining the right side of this fight for the 59,000 combat injured veterans who have waited long enough. We now have 218 signatures on the discharge petition for the Major Richard Star Act — a majority of the House has spoken. Speaker Johnson must schedule a vote.
