Lawyers on here can correct me if I’m wrong, but a problem I see with the AB NDP’s plan to end prisoner drop offs in Chinatown is you can’t hold someone until services are open & available. If a judge orders you released or your sentence ends, there’s no legal authority to keep you in custody
I'm saying there's a difference between understanding that and actually living through it
This means an hour difference between Van and Seattle, right?
nothing better than starting your day with a pitch black frozen void!
I get the feeling the lack of time change in Alberta is going to hit us like a ton of bricks. One of those things people aren’t going to truly understand until they’re in it, like parenthood or armed combat

Alberta Lawyers for Judicial Independence, which is campaigning against the referendum Q seeking more provincial control over judicial appointments, notes Thomas Rothwell, the other judge Smith and Amery praised, was appointed under Justin Trudeau.
There's also some disagreement about how these appointments took shape. Alberta Justice Minister Mickey Amery said there was a "concrete change in the selection process with real input from Alberta," while his federal counterpart says it was the usual process.
One of the judges, the former deputy minister, is Malcolm Lavoie. This Globe and Mail report says he "helped drive the Alberta government’s strategy on the notwithstanding clause at the Supreme Court and in practice." www.theglobeandmail.com/gift/f7e0368...
