Ironically the junior engineers are getting the interesting tasks (because these tasks are well-bounded) while the most senior engineers handle the constant stream of emergencies (because no one else can). It is profoundly unfulfilling work despite how important it is to the org's revenue stream.

My org has been running "lean and mean" for so long that we've incurred mountains of technical debt. Institutional knowledge to address it was lost thru attrition and layoffs. I could be doing amazing stuff but I'm stuck keeping the ancient products limping along because no one else here can. H8 IT!

I have an insane amount of technical breadth. My employer has used me to architect & design awesome silicon platforms and to lead dev teams to successful completion. They've also used me to put out fires in their shitty dyfunctional stack of legacy. Guess which one they usually use me for? 🔥😦🙁☹️☹️
