She earns more in a week than a job seeker gets in a year.

AAntipoverty Centre@antipovertycentre.orgOct 16, 2026, 9:03 AM

She is paid by the public 60x the JobSeeker rate. What makes her 60x more valuable than the people she has trapped in poverty?

@antipovertycentre.orgOct 16, 2026, 9:05 AM

We would argue someone so callous and dismissive of the human misery she causes is worth much less than any unemployed person.

"None of this is broken; it’s working exactly as intended

The violence against people in poverty is everywhere; it is constant, it is systemic and crafting a pitiful image of destitution to mark Anti-Poverty Week is not going to save anyone’s life"

Thinking about Amanda Rishworth's announcement a few months ago about replacing the "one size fits all" unemployment system. I think it's worth writing down how it currently works. Thing is, I'm not 100% sure myself. I'm in my own bit of it. Please correct if necessary. Apologies if it gets long.

You are 100% correct

"Money's greatest luxury is agency. It allows a person to leave, repair, replace, refuse, seek another opinion and respond to their own life." – Rebecca reflects on Anti-Poverty Week for @powertopersuade.bsky.social

FULL ARTICLE: www.powertopersuade.org.au/blog/anthony...

I do not want government to give me a beautiful life. Parts of my life are already beautiful. I want enough money to participate in the life I already have.

More than anything, I want the return of choice. Most people exercise it dozens of times a day without noticing. When it disappears, you notice its absence everywhere. You make do. You wait. You wear it again. You stay where you are. You receive what is offered and say thank you because you are thankful. But gratitude is not agency, and survival is not living.

I am not asking Anthony Albanese to remember poverty sentimentally. I am asking him to remember it politically. Look at the people living on the payments and in the housing that once made his future possible. Look at our shoes. Look at our teeth. Look at the food we eat when nobody is watching.

Good government changed Anthony Albanese's life. I believe him. The question is whether people like us are still considered worth enough good government to change ours.

I've said it many times before, but I couldn't even get the time or space to start healing my mind until after I got past the 35 year barrier. At that point they stop forcing people on the dsp into their stupid mutual shit as much Now imagine if I could've worked on myself earlier

But it is also the money.

Austudy, centrelink, dsp - all are well below liveable amounts & need to at LEAST meet the poverty line.

It’s not even just the money - it’s the ENORMOUS stress people are put under to jump through busywork hoops of the private ‘job services’ to keep the unemployed on their kpi books for commission. This is a public system propping up private companies at the expense of actual human lives.
