Yes!
The goal is to treat the underlying cause so they eventually don’t need supplementation but that’s not possible for everyone
Omg you’re amazing!!!
Yes treatment guidelines to follow. Ferritin target is 30 in most adults, 50 if symptoms or risk factors, 100 if inflammation
10 is now calling RFK Jr KFC Jr and I am here for it.
@shematologist
Ugh that’s rough. IV might be a good option and these are for optimal absorption but there’s still some absorption if you do it differently
I love this!!
I’m apparently now on TikTok posting about iron 🤦♀️
The nicest thing about it is being able to chat with the patient without taking notes or staring at the computer
The guidelines are meant to be used internationally and my good friend Michelle Sholzberg already changed the majority of labs in Ontario!
I’m so happy that the @ash.hematology.org guidelines are getting a lot of attention but all these influencers who don’t actually understand iron deficiency posting about it is making me CRAZY.
Omg 😭😭😭
It’s been a long time coming but hopefully will help many people. It’s hard with inflammation so tsat can be helpful (needs to be fasting) and if <20% is diagnostic
Yes I would consider autoimmune disease as inflammatory
Yep, less data and some data on other parameters having an inflection point around 20 in kids
Depends on if you have ongoing losses
If menstruating I would use the 30 cutoff. There’s very little data in middle child ages as iron deficiency very rare outside of those who menstruate
So common in donors! It’s a real problem.
