What if instead of cosmic beings that erotically tortured people seeking the extremes of hedonism, Pinhead and the Cenobites appeared from their hell dimension to lecture deviants on the importance of safe sex, enthusiastic consent, and personal responsibility. Wouldn’t that be groundbreaking

I apparently have this deep-seated fear that if I'm kind to myself and let myself have occasional more fallow days or days where I mostly read that I will descend into pure hedonistic lotus-eating eloi do-nothing-ness, a fear that is based on... nothing? I like to work? So I'm working on that

Including this week, I have felt like a slacker because I lost a day to couch delivery and some other logistical issues but like I wrote two book reviews. I finished a short story. I returned edits (in less than a DAY) on two other stories objectively this is a productive week!

So I usually present a pretty rosy view (and honestly in my personal life things are great and in my professional life they are looking up) but to be really real, I have been beating myself up a lot about my level of productivity all year because I am WRITING FULL TIME, I SHOULD DO ALL THE THINGS

Set aside the day to address editorial comments on a story from one venue and on a novelette for another the story had like three comments and one was just a typo the novelette had over twenty comments but most were just telling me how great I am I love getting all my work done in an hour

The proper response to being upset about the way a story is written is to write a story of your own that does it RIGHT, be it direct fanfic (“fix-it fic”) or an original that uses similar materials in different ways The latter is like a fifth of my fiction!

Well, all else aside, at least I’m cute, so that’s something

Aw thank you so much!

4,250 words, and that's a draft of "Captain Graydeon the Phlogistonic Man," a new SF story that turned out better than I'd hoped! I even resisted my typical impulse to explain every single little thing and allowed some space for implication and inference

I had soooo much fun with this one, got to play with some of my favorite Mythos stuff and slip in a little of the ol' class warfare

I made my kid this great wire monkey

I really enjoyed it!

Currently hanging out on my balcony in cutoff shorts and a bikini top because autumn in October is something that happens to people in other places

@timpratt.orgOct 6, 2026, 5:12 PM

Wrote a couple of book reviews. (Actual long ones, not my usual little paragraphs) I still remember how! Also took some notes for a workshop I’m running in January, vague ideas coalescing into something resembling a plan!

@timpratt.orgOct 6, 2026, 2:37 PM

So sorry for your loss! He had an amazing career

@timpratt.orgOct 6, 2026, 6:43 AM

I love that one. I saw it when it came out and then rewatched it last year with my kid when he was on a time loop movie kick (there are lots, most are nowhere near that good)
