Ha! That’s funny.

When I did a test viewing of the films in a mostly empty theater before the screening, it was so moving hearing her purr and meow in a movie theater.

My 2020 film “Transition (For a Tabby),” which closed out my film night at PAM CUT three nights ago — a montage of Hawthorne Bridge crossings that also became a tribute to my beloved cat Ruthie, who passed away at age 17 while I was making the film: vimeo.com/442797675

Interesting…graffiti? Not sure what to call the paint applied to an otherwise blank pharmacy wall I passed by yesterday.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Finally addressed what was perhaps my most glaring omission among classic crime movies. boxd.it/gIsWsH

That's great to hear! Thanks so much for coming!

What an amazing night at my @portlandartmuseum.bsky.social PAM CUT show, talking about my book and curating a night of shorts and archival footage for a full house of people. So grateful!

This must be partly why the film’s 1997 rerelease in the US felt like it had appeared out of thin air. Like some of Powell & Pressburger’s masterworks, Le Samourai had literally never before screened here in its intended form. Just crazy. Hollywood was almost a kind of paranoid authoritarian state.

From what I can tell, our cats seem to look alike.

Join me this Thursday! At the @portlandartmuseum.bsky.social's PAM CUT Tomorrow Theater, I will be hosting an evening of short films and selections from the Oregon Historical Society archives, including a 1970s student film featuring Matt Groening, an ode to Portland's Lovejoy Columns, and more.

I have not seen either of his previous films, but definitely would like to. I’m impressed.

I really enjoyed the movie Rose of Nevada last night: the saturated 16mm film stock and unsynchronized sound, the inexplicable time-travel narrative, the Cornwall setting. And I love that director Mark Jenkin shot, wrote, edited and did the sound design. I’ll be contemplating this movie for a while.

From the Spiral Elevator to the Delta Dome, my latest @orartswatch.org architecture column contemplates what might have been over the past 120 years, collected in the captivating "Unseen Portland Architecture" exhibit at Design Portland. www.orartswatch.org/unseen-portl...

Portland friends, come see me this Friday afternoon! From 12-4pm, I will be at the Weedman Design Partners gallery (1905 NW 23rd Place), signing books and generally hanging out. My exhibit of photos remains on view there through October.
