I still have space in my schedule for work later this month and into September. If you're looking for a reporter to tackle election stories, a copy editor to go through the manuscript you worked on all summer, or some exciting third option, please reach out! RTs appreciated.

Earlier this year, I caught up with Mohammed Usrof, founder of the Palestinian Institute for Climate Strategy. We talked about the crises facing Palestine and the need for a paradigm shift in the movement for climate justice.

As the Trump administration shuffles migrants through its growing nationwide network of immigration jails, ad hoc transportation networks have sprung up to support them. I covered some of those efforts here:

Police removed dozens of residents and arrested Noura Erakat at a September meeting in Palm Beach County, Florida. The county holds $1 billion in Israel Bonds, making it the world's largest investor. Organizers told me they want their tax dollars invested at home, not in fueling violence abroad.

Folks loved my Battle of Algiers guide, so I've invited some experts to talk more! We'll cover what the film got right about the Algerian War, how it fit into the Arab world’s socialist sixties film scene, and what lessons it offers for today’s liberation struggles. Register: luma.com/h8fb00s9

A mostly black-and-white poster with images from the film and color headshots of the speakers. It reads "Film Talk: Battle of Algiers with historians Tamara Maatouk, Lacy Murphy, and Marianne Dhenin. Online, 27 Oct 2026. 9 am PDT Los Angeles; 12 pm EDT New York; 5 pm CET Algiers; 7 pm EEST Cairo"

it's cool that we decided to ruin the Internet and now I pay for a search engine that still doesn't work well, can't access web pages half the time, and spend ages solving nonsensical captchas to produce writing that's underpaid because the slop machines are throttling traffic to my publisher

Please join me and some historian friends to talk about one of my favorite films, The Battle of Algiers. This is a free one-hour webinar later this month. Hope to see you there! Register: luma.com/h8fb00s9

Here's a good overview of the student protests in France, which began in Paris suburbs, in working-class schools attended by many black & brown students, & have spread nationwide. The government has tried to end the protests through violent repression. It hasn't worked. f24.my/CCfu

California educators and activists are fighting for changes to last year's AB 715, a bill they say was “designed to create an atmosphere of fear.” But if pro-Israel groups get their way, the proposed clean-up bill will never see committee. I covered the fight.

Demand for coffee is growing, and climate change threatens supply—yet consumers don’t want to pay more. In an intensified and unequal industry, however, someone always pays.

@thepourover.coffee reports on why the coffee trade is so damn unequal. ☕
