If anybody does still doubt that Russia has achieved control over the decisions of the small group driving US national policy, please buy them this -

If the aim is to curb cross-Channel invasion by making the UK a less enticing destination for migrants, there are plenty of less controversial options available than shooting them. The trouble is, to British governments they are all equally inconceivable.

Dusting off slides from a decade ago about Russian information warfare definitions including "physical" interventions against data centres and communications hubs. It seemed to generate some pretty blank looks at the time.

I have enormous sympathy for American friends and colleagues trying to communicate comprehensibly with the outside world after their Supreme Leader randomly changes the name of the topic they are working on.

Screenshot of email explaining that "Super Intelligence" is actually AI.

I never said “to a ceasefire deal”. It’s just the most damaging and least productive course of action full stop.

Oh well that makes it all perfectly all right then.

The Observer’s take on the UK opposition’s proposal for an air and missile defence system. Starts off hostile, ends up quite sensible and recognising there’s a problem and the government isn’t dealing with it.

(“Government refuses to”, was the original quote.)

I hope you are not too late. This has been going on for so long I have been able to write and publish a whole damn book about it.

The Censorship-Industrial Complex theory is an embarrassing misreading of complex dynamics, and (ironically) it's quickly become a tool to shut down legitimate discourse and criticism by framing it as a conspiracy against free speech.

Canadian journalist David Pugliese firmly rebuts any suggestion that he is knowingly working with Moscow. A set of documents (if real) suggest that in the 1980s he was a person of interest to the KGB - no more. A murky campaign to discredit the documents as forgeries has achieved striking success.

Do you know if it has been censored?

And the British Museum's current debâcle will be doing wonders for their tourism figures once it is all over.

Yes, a whole lot of people (including me) discovering that in fact it is easier, cheaper and much more pleasant to go and see it where it actually lives.

@keirgiles.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 8:25 AM

They appoint people exactly like them. (They have to, because it turns out that everybody who isn’t like them is a far-right thug.)

Yes I was interested to see the Bayeux Tapestry was coming to England. Yes I made an attempt to book a ticket to see it. Yes I've read about the experience, including the chance of being told to sod off AFTER you've travelled to London and stood in the queue. No I won't be trying again.

TB, or CPR without the P?

@keirgiles.bsky.socialOct 1, 2026, 8:32 PM

First aid and defibrillator training night in the village. I expected updates to CPR best practice. What I didn't expect was the instruction NOT to do the breathing part of CPR if no masks/dams, because of likelihood of communicable diseases like tuberculosis, now once again a problem in the UK.

A defibrillator case. Empty because we were training on it.

Stuff you need to explain about phone calls EVERY TIME. To Europeans: no you can't WhatsApp, we are in the English countryside, data signal is something we have heard of but not experienced. To anybody under 35: when we arranged you would call me, you don't need to ask permission again to DO IT.
