Great day to be an atheist

Wow -- RNC video: "On June 14th, 1946, God looked down on his planned paradise and said, 'I need a caretaker,' so God gave us Trump." It only gets more unhinged and culty from there.

Evangelist Whitney Lynn says she preaches on planes because she loves “a captive audience.” She's not alone. It's becoming a trend. If spreading your message requires listeners who can't escape, maybe it's not as compelling as you think. www.friendlyatheist.com/p/christian-...

Texas’s decision to start teaching Bible stories is meant to send a political message—“but regardless of your political or religious beliefs, there are good reasons to agree that the Bible should be part of young people’s education,” Adam Kirsch argues.

We have been proud to be on the front lines of the fight to end child marriage alongside our partners at Unchained At Last — and our state advocates have lobbied in California for the past three years to get this bill passed. It's time to finish the job.

Read this great piece from Kevin Bolling at @secularstudents.bsky.social calling on California to join the growing national consensus and end child marriage once and for all.

In the Oval Office, Trump's Religious Liberty Commission chair, Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, called the separation of church & state the "biggest lie that's been told in America." After reading their report, we beg to differ. Join us Monday for a town hall to break it down. atheists.org/RLC-townhall

Absolutely agree. Unlike the White Christian Nationalist movement and its acolytes, we actually care about religious freedom, pluralism, and government neutrality. And we're proud to work with Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and Jews who share that commitment. Thank you, Professor McQuade!

As a Christian, I am deeply offended by JD Vance’s proclamation of the United States as “a Christian nation.” Our country was founded on religious freedom. Read the First Amendment— no establishment of religion. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/07/o...

We're calling on @schumer.senate.gov to retract his fabricated statements, correct the record wherever they appear, and apologize. Our country — and our history — is under attack and he's enabling it. It's outrageous and we should be demanding better.

In the wake of Donald Trump and his Christian Nationalist acolytes hijacking America 250 in an attempt to justify their exclusionary attacks on huge swaths of Americans, why is Chuck Schumer sharing fabricated quotes that sound like the sort of thing fake "historian" David Barton would make up?

NEWS: On Independence Day, Senator Chuck Schumer posted social media statements citing the founders' belief that the United States was "God's noble experiment." The problem? He made it up.

Chuck Schumer has spent more than 20 years claiming the Founding Fathers called America "God's noble experiment."

There's no evidence any of them ever said that.

Why does he keep lying about it?

Jonathan lays out Schumer's outrageous fabrications here — and adds new details. They edited his Fourth of July post to remove the claim that the founders (unspecified, and apparently all at once?) uttered this sentiment as they left "Constitution [sic] Hall." Yikes.

Adam Keiper, executive editor at @thebulwark.com, found exactly one historical example of the phrase "God's noble experiment" being used: a book review from 1939. The only other times this phrase has *ever* been uttered? Statements from Chuck Schumer, starting in 2003 in Congress.

AAdam Keiper@adamkeiper.comJul 6, 2026, 2:16 AM

FWIW, I only find one hit for the phrase in ProQuest, from a 1939 book review written by a Hillsdale professor in the journal 'Church History.' It's a review of Ray Billington's book 'The Protestant Crusade, 1800–1860.'

Screenshot of a paragraph of text from a 1939 book review, with the phrase "God's noble experiment" highlighted in yellow. The paragraph reads: "In the late forties, the cause of the Nativists was kept alive by the great influx of immigrants and the passions engendered by the Mexican war. In order to purify the immigrant stream at its source, the crusaders began with great zeal to convert the Catholics of Europe to the Protestant faith. This foreign endeavor had its counterpart in their efforts to save the middle West fence the designs of 'Popery," To the mid-century Protestants, this was more than a religious cattse. They were saving American democracy, God's noble experiment, on whose success hung the fate of all democracies. In this struggle they had no doubts of their ultimate victory. As they read the signs of providential guidance in the past discovery and settlement of America, they faced the future optimistic and unafraid, for the dice were loaded in favor of Protestantism."

Independent journalist @jonathanlarsen.bsky.social found that Schumer's staff edited a Facebook post to remove an additional fabricated element: the claim that as the founders left "Constitution [sic] Hall," they called America God’s noble experiment. But the core lie remained and was repeated.
