Heating system went crash clong bang when turned on last week and we're waiting for the one bloke who deals with them to come and look at it.

In the meantime hooray for #hooraydiators!

I need her to call them perverts on television first. Other Media doesn't count 😆 *retreats to bunker*

Well that's why I don't want to actually write Panasonic on it 😄

@zxguesser.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 7:51 PM

That would seem unlikely unless they happened to use the same IR codes 😄

(may slightly give the game away as to where the "inspiration" for it came from)

Currently debating whether putting a Simpsons reference in my new remote graphic is too much 😆

Was confused for a second that this had hit my feed via a route other than @dreadships.bsky.social 😄
(Only occasionally dazzle, but frequently sarcastic posts about weird ships and planes, and navigational blunders)

(that's why the test card F there is so mpeggy - it's coming from a png, but being streamed into the page as very low bitrate video) The code was horribly temperamental, ridiculously inefficient, and I will now kill all the scripts and hopefully never touch them again 😄)

On the subject of the old (10 years ago) viewer - I've managed to kick it into life, at least far enough to get a couple of screenshots. The main feature it had that the current one doesn't is that it started out as a live webcam! Video is encoded to mpeg1, fired over a websocket, and rendered. Mad.

A brief history of teletext viewer remote controls:

Early version of the remote control graphic that few people will remember. This was carried over from a previous attempt at an online teletext viewer to a new implementation in 2017.The remote has looked more or less like this since summer 2018The sexy new remote with an ergonomic shape and squishy rubber buttons that don't look like balls.

Regular viewers might notice the online teletext viewer finally has a new remote control graphic to replace the ugly placeholder that can trace its origins back over a decade! (If things seem broken, you may need to flush your browser cache)

You didn't try to update something did you?! 😱

They never claim that girls like short men paying in installments for lifted shoes of course – they're just hoping you'll infer that.

The mind boggling bit is people just taking the weird horrors it spits out and saying "yeah sure that looks fine to me, a person who has seen potatoes and beans before"

@zxguesser.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 12:29 PM

Being realistic the "using photos of your actual product on menus" ship sailed long ago along with "photo is of real edible food", so it's not altogether surprising that people have jumped on entirely synthetic images as soon as it got cheap and easy.

@zxguesser.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 12:16 PM

No it can't be. Shut up. *crumbles to dust*

You would hope they have easy access to actual baked potatoes too.

Hey, I'm under 40 and think old computers are neat. The games are all shit though and you can download and instant load them, so wonky old cassettes that take up space are already worthless.

@zxguesser.bsky.socialOct 5, 2026, 11:50 AM

That's assuming that broadcast TV is going to be replaced by 5G streaming TV as opposed to just No Television of course...

I just don't think Ding Dong brackets Christmas Song close brackets gets the recognition it deserves for pioneering the genre.
