It is basically whatever Guild's turf you're on makes the rules. Smuggling magical ingredients on Baker's Street is like punching a Harlot on Lover's Lane, the punishment for both is getting kicked to death by the respective Guilds. Paladins try to mediate all this with "basic morality".

Like Wizards, Alchemists need a lot of up-front investment to learn a bunch of useful potions and buy some heavy armour, but they're a high-risk, high-reward tank class that can dish out serious AOE damage and offer a lot of utility.

Sure, sounds like fun! The more, the merrier!

Alright for the sake of those that enjoyed Clerics (and because I could fit the Alchemist blurb in the Class column page) I'll leave Clerics as the merch-collecting weirdos they are for now. It's two pages, fuck it. I can't see myself exploring their lore but more classes = more fun.

Working on the Alchemist class page and I'm loving them. They refer to magic as "precise, delicate, demonstrable theory crafting" and science as "slapdash guesswork and hunch-chasing." That's what you want in a scientist. A can-do attitude and a measuring system that involves the word "fistful".

@viceandviolence.bsky.socialOct 4, 2026, 11:36 PM

Yup, the heavy armour stops the worst of the shrapnel when a potion gets a little too potent.

Oh also I needed a class that could reset Refractory Periods for the folks shagging their way through dungeons and whatnot. Chuck a Virility Potion at the back of your Bard's head and watch him dive headfirst into that bandit puss.

Yeah the adventuring gig economy vibe was really clashing with what a Cleric fundamentally is, whereas learning to brew potions feels much more in-line with it. Thanks for bringing that up.

There’s still the New Gods, the Moonthings, the Paladin Order, the various Blood Cults, and so on, but active worshipping of the gods through congregation and listening to some sexless old git read a book doesn’t feel like something Mundainians would indulge in.

@viceandviolence.bsky.socialOct 4, 2026, 10:43 PM

But the Cleric class has so many narrative implications for lore that are really jamming me up creatively. Pantheons, realms, religious organisations, purloined morality structures, zealots and heretics, et cetera. When it’s done well it’s really fun, but when it’s half-arsed, it’s really obvious.

@viceandviolence.bsky.socialOct 4, 2026, 10:43 PM

I’ll be replacing the Cleric class with these cheerful little burn victims. Folks know I’ve been struggling to make the Cleric class feel right since its inception, and ultimately it was in the game “because D&D has it”.

Alchemists are a Support Tank class that can create a variety of useful potions, both in-combat and out of it. There’s always a small chance of them exploding, dealing damage to everyone around them, but there’s an equal chance of each potion being super potent!

Been playing it off-and-on since the Orange Box. I find it really weird that no one tried to make TF2 again, they all went for small-team esports for some reason. Mordhau and Chivalry 2 are the latest entries in "dumb fun games for elder millennials that remember the old days" I think.

Looks great, awesome job!

@viceandviolence.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 5:36 PM

Glorious, loved every second of it! Great job guys!

I think it's a bass. It's definitely a fish that someone that knows nothing about fishing would pick.

I thought about making it a type of cordyceps that infects and controls the snail but I couldn't be arsed. I think the snail just wanders about until it finds a good tree to brush the mushroom off.

There's a type of fungus called the Little Wizard noted for its long white stem and tall blue caps that look like wizard towers. Its gooey spores attach to the back of hard-shell insects to spread, giving the impression of a little magician on a quest during growth. Good in Dwarf Risotto.

Ya get goobers in rivers that go through areas of high background magic, not usually a problem. If one's standing on a rock addressing the others or riding a snail, just tread on it and they'll scatter.

"Large Mutant, Unemployed" Sounds like Carbon Pink alright!
