Trump admin's new rule adding prohibitively expensive new fees for "OPT"—temporary work authorization program for international students and new grads in the United States—is out. Would require colleges to pay $70,000 for year one. $30,000 for years two and three combined for STEM fields.

this is effectively a new $100k tax on international students, and will destroy the market. Which is killing the golden goose -- higher ed is one of the most successful exports the US produces

Remember when Obama said “they cling to guns etc etc.” Such media outrage. Trump says “hope LA and San Diego get bombed” and it’s barely a story. If you don’t see the media double standard I don’t know what to tell you.

I was talking with a new junior professor at UC Davis and they came from a place with a 4-4 teaching load. I started with a heavy teaching load also. If you started with a heavy teaching load you really appreciate working at an R1 and you also see the Matthew effect for faculty starting at R1s.

And yes this analysis does not require a PhD in political science. 😂

To put it mildly Trump supporters are very resistant to any information that doesn’t fit Trump’s propaganda laundered by right wing media. But the thing about gas and grocery prices are that they are experienced by most people directly, and it is easy to tie gas prices directly to HIS Iran war.

Yup poor base running is definitely something that has been happening for years. Especially in post season.
