I’ve just been asked to use ChatGPT to draft a letter to parents about children’s music lessons. Quicker to write it myself.

I’ve got one of these. Adjustable setting - never lets me down.

London's beautiful brutalist Barbican Centre, snapped on film using an Agfa Optima Sensor 335. Gives these images a nice 1970s vibe. #believeinfilm #barbicancentre #brutalism

In this film, the hand movements seem to have little connection to what we hear on the soundtrack. As if something completely different was playing during the filming.

I’ve not seen Tar or the Bernstein film, both of which (I’m told) are quite convincing. Both actors playing Celibidache are better at facial expressions than arm movements. There’s predictably no mention of the 1980s court case about the female trombonist.

THE YELLOW TIE - Expansive, expensive musical #biopic from Romania, with a starry cast led by #JohnMalkovich as conductor #SergiuCelibidache, is visually sumptuous & decently acted - @grahamrickson.bsky.social on musical politics, philosophy & unanswered questions www.theartsdesk.com/film/yellow-...

I watched the new Celibidache biopic. It makes for amenable enough viewing but doesn't dig very deep. theartsdesk.com/film/yellow-... #bruckner #celibidache #johnmalkovich #seanbean

I like it, despite the scratchy mono sound!

@grahamrickson.bsky.socialOct 6, 2026, 8:38 PM

Looks like it!

I agree. The main theme is so catchy. Rarely played live, presumably as it’s only 15 mins long. This Richter version is apparently sensational.

Couldn’t resist this second hand LP. This early recording of Prokofiev 7 features the original quiet ending, which is a plus. #prokofiev #sviatoslavrichter #karelancerl #supraphon

Loved this film - doesn’t it have a great heist sequence and a dogged detective living alone with his cats? And a weird Yves Montand hallucination scene?

@grahamrickson.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 3:39 PM

I will - thanks for the tip!

@grahamrickson.bsky.socialOct 2, 2026, 3:38 PM

I've just sampled the slow movement - wowzers! It's gorgeous.

Mahler 6 for piano duet! Just dipped into a preview copy, and it's really, really good. @deeplyclassical.bsky.social #mahler #zemlinsky #piano4hands

I’m fixated on KTOO radio Juneau’s hourly jingle, an insanely catchy guitar and chime bar theme.

I studied a 20th century poetry anthology for A Level English in the mid 1980s which included several impenetrable Empson poems. I can’t remember anything about them, but I do remember that scary beard and the staring eyes.

Yes - the ā€˜ginger beer plant’ was an explosive cocktail of sugar, yeast and ginger extracted. We used plastic squash bottles and they exploded in the shed. Messy and sticky
