Taan Forest, a Haida-owned forestry company, has set out to build and restore bear dens affected by prior logging.

The Quebec election was yet another example of the flaws inherent in our first past the post system, one that rewards division and creates false majorities.

Mark Carney should fix them. #cdnpoli

McGuinty could not comment on what the federal government knew about the meetings reported last week by the @theglobeandmail.com, but said the fact oil royalties and water rights were discussed as leverage “was a surprise to everybody.”

Endangered orcas will likely face an ocean noisy enough for the foreseeable future to cause their extinction, as new federal targets risk locking in harmful noise levels, advocates warn.

A nearly undetectable wave of warm water is travelling north toward British Columbia and could arrive as soon as mid-October.

Butting heads at Toronto’s mayoral debate last night: Chow promises to expand public services; Bradford vows to slash water bills and land transfer taxes. Chow is “fear-mongering,” Bradford is “flip-flopping,” and Chris Alexander has officially dropped out of the race @nationalobserver.com

For months, Alberta’s business leaders largely stayed away from the debate on separation. Now, with a referendum just weeks away, a flurry of businesses are taking Canada’s side. But oil producers and pipeline companies remain notably absent from the debate.

The first-of-its kind program could set a model for bear conservation worldwide. But in providing an alternative to simply protecting old-growth, some worry building dens gives an easy excuse for logging to continue without pause.

Polling shows Toronto's mayoral election has become a two-way race between Brad Bradford and Olivia Chow.

Front page of today's Toronto Sun is their response our investigation into Bradford's Victory App. They claim that Olivia Chow, while not using AI, is feeding supporters pre-written messages. An example: "Hey Toronto, I just signed up to volunteer with Team Olivia Chow."

It’s been more than a decade since the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority proposed a second terminal at Roberts Bank south of Vancouver, but the project has been tied up in regulatory reviews. Now, a new law allows major projects to bypass environmental permits like the one holding up Terminal 2.

@nationalobserver.comOct 5, 2026, 2:52 PM

The decision means that Canadians will not recoup the $40 billion in public funds spent on the project during the 20 year lifespan of its oil shipping contracts, according to regulatory filings.

In @thestar.com I write about agitslop seeping into Toronto’s election & politics. AstroTurf campaigns to AI-driven apps, we need a Blade Runner to help us understand what’s real & what’s fake, but it may inspire a renaissance of showing up in public space for protest or just conversation.

My column leans on reporting done by @nationalobserver.com @rorywh.bsky.social & Mahdis Habibinia. Well done, everyone. 👏🏼

Toronto needs a Blade Runner to help us figure out what's real and what's artificial. In the film series, Blade Runners hunt androids disguised as humans. In Toronto, we need them to root out our AI generated politics.
Brad Bradford's mayoral campaign has come under fire for using an app called Victory that, as an investigation by Canada's National Observer found, "gamifies" political campaigns by awarding participants points for uploading their contacts with possibly-lax privacy standards around voter data. Further, the app also awards points for posting AI-generated messages to social media.
The Star's Mahdis Habibinia asked Bradford himself about using the app and he said the reporting was false and that there's no rewards. In response, the National Observer released audio of a Bradford campaign Zoom meeting where a presenter said a points system would be used and that there will be rewards.

The Wuikinuxv Nation's roughly 11-week creek-walking season runs until late October. This year, crews are using it to map where water is disappearing, banks are washing away and salmon habitat has been lost — information that will help Wuikinuxv decide where future restoration money should go.
