We discussed their youth provision and their work improving access, opportunity and progression for young people facing barriers.

Great to catch up with Trevor Rose and the team at Community Recording Studios, a creative space in St Ann’s where young people can learn music and video skills. In the over thirty years that it’s been running, CRS has produced some of our city’s greatest talent - from Young T & Bugsey to Jah Digga.

We’ve already lived through their 14 years of austerity, and we all know where that’s got us — rising inequality, crumbling public services and millions left vulnerable to the cost of living crisis. [2/2]

The Tories want to cut £47 billion from public spending, targeting benefits, the civil service, foreign aid and GB Energy, our publicly owned clean energy company. What planet are they on? [1/2]

That’s why the People’s Emergency Briefing is such an important film. I recently watched it at Broadway Cinema in Nottingham, then joined a panel to talk about why the @nebriefing.bsky.social campaign matters, and what the government must do to tackle the climate and nature crisis. [2/2]

Extreme weather, caused by the climate crisis, is affecting the UK’s public health and food supplies, driving up the cost-of-living crisis and devastating damaging natural habitats. This is an emergency, so why aren’t we treating it like one? [1/2]

A special shout-out to Nottingham Women’s Centre for coming along and always showing solidarity with our trans siblings.

The EHRC guidance harms trans people and anyone who doesn’t conform to ever-narrowing gender stereotypes, and it does nothing to protect cis women. We must keep fighting it in Parliament and build pressure outside too.

Last month, I was proud to attend the mass lobby of MPs organised by @transsolidarity.bsky.social attended by hundreds of our trans constituents, their allies and loved ones.

Solidarity with @uonucu.bsky.social members once again striking against compulsory redundancies and course closures.

Such an outcome would devastate workers, students, and our city, as well as UK research.

I urge the university leadership to do the right thing and protect jobs and courses.

We must ensure it’s delivered publicly so that: - every pound of taxpayers’ money goes to care instead of profit - care workers get the standardised pay and working conditions they deserve - every person receives the same high-quality, joined-up care no matter where they live [2/2]

@nadiawhittomemp.bsky.socialSep 28, 2026, 3:06 PM

Our broken social care system has caused untold pain across society for far too long, so I welcome the Prime Minister’s plan for an NHS-style national care service. [1/2]

We reflected on the importance of social movements and how we can all be part of forcing change by putting pressure on those in power.

I was so impressed by their thoughtful questions about everything from prison overcrowding and transformative justice, to tackling institutional racism, violence against women and girls, and the rise of the far right.

I spoke to sixth formers at Nottingham Free School about my journey into political activism when I was their age, and then being elected as one of our local MPs at 23.

It was particularly great to hear about their work with those who have learning disabilities and how giving people who might not otherwise have met a space to garden together has allowed everyone to learn from each other.

Thank you to Maisie for showing us around Sherwood Community Gardens this week. Communal green spaces like these reduce loneliness and make a huge difference to our wellbeing.
