Yeah, I have to schedule two days after to recover. I wish my insurance would offer Novavax, which tends to have fewer side effects. Alas.

This weekend it was really nice to do fun activities that have nothing to do with my reporting, like going to watch salmon spawn, visiting a haunted farm with a corn maze, and running a Gothic horror RPG.

Ugh, that's so frustrating. I hope you start feeling better soon!

Remember: ICE lied so often about people posing threats to them, to justify their violence in Chicago, that a Chicago federal judge wrote it was "difficult, if not impossible, to believe almost anything" ICE said. Do you know what it takes to get a Fed district judge to WRITE THAT in a ruling?

Big thanks to @ecocityaction.org for their educational field trip to the Cedar River today where we got to see salmon spawning. It was lovely to meet new folks and say hello to old friends while appreciating the salmon and learning more about our local habitats.

I've seen several dogs in the few minutes I've been standing out here, which is pretty great.

That was supposed to be sure, not site, but it kind of works either way.

The view from the Renton library site is pretty today!

The river with trees on either side and another bridge down the way. The leaves are still green.

Your periodic reminder that nobody knows what will happen in the future. The best we've got are educated guesses, and those can sometimes end up being wrong. That's one reason why if you think something is important, it's worth fighting like hell.

Will we see a dragon? 👀

Hmm, the September WA State revenue forecast is slightly better than the one in June. I wonder whether that will translate into a slightly rosier forecast for Seattle as well. We'll find out in a week!

Infuriating.

That being said, when right-wing oligarchs have control over so much mainstream media, a lot of journalism no longer works as that backstop.

@amysundberg.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 7:52 PM

This is so distressing, especially as local media also keeps taking hits. There simply aren't enough local reporters to cover everything with the care and depth that are deserved. Journalism is one of the important backstops of democracy, both local and national, and it needs to be valued as such.

It should be shocking that anyone felt comfortable saying this idea publicly, and instead it's the thing that gets applause. Wild.

@amysundberg.bsky.socialOct 8, 2026, 6:15 PM

Oh, I had that happen during a "sprain" once. Didn't end up needing surgery but that was a particularly nasty injury that set me up for decades of ankle problems.

The deployment of National Guard troops into cities has been so normalized that it barely merits a mention in the press or among the public anymore. D.C. remains occupied, Memphis is occupied, so is New Orleans... It's incredible to me.

I recently got invited to a party that starts at 9pm and suddenly felt ancient.

Last week, not one but two audits on Seattle's surveillance apparatus dropped. Such sloppy implementation of this surveillance program, especially the SDOT traffic cameras and private cameras, is troubling and doesn't appear to take community concerns seriously.

@amysundberg.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 3:12 AM

Thanks for all your work, and I'm glad to hear you're staying in Seattle!
