‘Mob rule’ is also, of course, an insulting way of referring to democracy.

Lord Watson, now a senior vice-president at the US tech corporation, warned UK ministers could get themselves “in a lot of trouble” as he was questioned about concerns raised about the government working with his new employer. That's fair, I guess we'll have to wait and see when the time comes. The matter has been complicated more as this is happening at the same time as Labour having its natural "Burnham bounce", but ultimately the motion has hurt the Greens at the worst possible time for them.

Maybe, I guess we'll see. Agree on ultimately it'll come down to the more long term impact on membership.

(link for reference). Ultimately yes, Leadership should have taken a unified stance prior, but I don't think it crosses resignation threshold, and many op-ed writers calling for it fundamentally don't want a strong left opposition to Labour, also to be considered.

Like Berry, I also didn't see the ZIR motion as constructive, and his lack of leadership on that was a huge misstep which hopefully they can recover from, I don't disagree, but the statement the leadership released clarified the party position.

@mc00.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 8:24 AM

I think there's a much stronger argument to be made for his judgement being poor around the motion (still not resigning matter tbh), but it's a different point than the one I was making, some are using the by-election alone as basis.

Fascinating to watch people *still* fixate on whether Polanski should resign as Greens leader because of a by-election loss, after doing relatively well in what used to be a very safe Labour seat. On what basis? Farage has stood for parliament eight times.
