I visit cottage gardens, wildflower meadows and botanical gardens on my travels to photograph beautiful flowers and bring colour and inspiration into people's gardens and lives. All photos mine. No fancy photo equipment, just my old iPhone X

I’m in Málaga right now 🇪🇸

True for smaller pollinators, but larger ones like bumblebees, honeybees and hummingbirds can push past the extra layers and successfully forage for pollen and nectar

Wow, you have some hungry voles!

@simonecannon.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 8:52 AM

Good idea! Irises should be divided every 3 to 5 years to keep the plants healthy and prevent disease

I'm in Spain and spotted a double #bloom Magenta Chiffon Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus 'Rwoods5'), a long-blooming deciduous shrub with deep #pink #blossoms. It's highly tolerant of heat, drought, salt, and pollution, making it a good choice for urban or coastal gardens #BloomScrolling #Flower

Yes, I was reading that they are limited to cooler spots like Victoria and Tasmania. Major displays and commercial farms such as the Table Cape Tulip Farm in Tasmania and the Tesselaar Tulip Festival in Victoria apparently thrive in these zones though

Try sprinkling cayenne pepper heavily over your mulch or soil in the fall and again in early spring. When animals try to kick or sniff the area, the spice usually discourages them from eating

Peat bogs store vast amounts of carbon and act as unique natural habitats. Extracting peat for gardening destroys these fragile environments and releases trapped carbon dioxide into the air. Better to use bark, coir, wood fibre, and green waste to promote nutrient exchange and healthy microbial life

Gorgeous!

Try interplanting rodent-resistant bulbs such as daffodils (narcissus), alliums, or fritillaria which exude a chemical that actively repels pests such as voles

@simonecannon.bsky.socialOct 9, 2026, 10:12 AM

Great idea!

October and November are great months to plant for spring. Tulip, crocus and daffodil bulbs can be planted either in outdoor pots using peat-free compost, or directly in #flower borders. You can get creative, layering multi-colours for a blooming rainbow effect #BloomScrolling #Gardening #Spring

Yes, but it does need a sunny window 🌸🌞

The West Indian #Lantana ‘Lantana camara’ is native to the tropics, so is best planted in #garden pots in the UK for some bright summer colour. Its nectar heavily attracts butterflies and bees, but it is not cold tolerant below 5°C to 10°C (41-50F) #BloomScrolling #Flowers #Pollinator #Gardening

Ahhh, love that! ❤️❤️🌸

Gosh, if only there were a group of experienced politicians, say like, oh I don't know, House Democrats, who could stop this blatant grifting instead of sitting back and watching the US burn to the ground...

@simonecannon.bsky.socialOct 7, 2026, 3:43 PM

No, definitely not. The leaves act as natural solar panels that photosynthesize to generate the essential energy the plant needs to create buds and store nutrients in its underground tubers for next year. Stripping the healthy green growth will only weaken the plant and further delay blooming.

They don’t like extreme heat but they do need at least 6-8 hours of sunlight a day. If they sit in partial shade they grow tall and spindly with green leaves but no flowers. Also, try a low-nitrogen, high-phosphorus and high-potassium "bloom booster" fertilizer (such as a 0-10-10 formula).

An intermezzo from yesterday’s neon coloured #Dahlia, the Dahlia ‘Crazy love’ is known for its delicate colour-changing #pink, lavender and creamy white blooms and long #bloom window, from June to late October #BloomScrolling #Gardening #Autumn #Flowers #Garden
