@pimlicat.bsky.social explains on Times Radio how public opinion on Brexit has dramatically changed since the referendum.
She tells MPs who represent areas that formerly voted Leave that "they need to understand that in many of those constituencies, people are now more in favour of membership.โ€ ๐Ÿšจ

Its one of those months where what seem impossible all of a sudden seems likely a lot quicker than one thought.

The idea that rejoining the EU would take the UK a decade is a myth.

Finland went from application to full membership in less time than it took us to negotiate and sign a trade deal with India.

No country has ever walked this path as a former member, already closely aligned and sharing the EUโ€™s values. With the political will, Britain could be back at the table within a single parliament.

Itโ€™s not too late to ask your MP to be at the debate in Parliament on Monday about the U.K. joining the European Union. This handy tool makes it super easy to do

Go big or go home: Pulling back from Europe to keep Reform UK out is the SUREST way to let Farage in, says @pimlicat.bsky.social.

Can they weather being in opposition to reform and con coalition if they donโ€™t?

@pimlicat.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 1:21 PM

Andy Burnham has opened the door to EU membership, this session offers a chance for our political class to catch up with where voters have long been. Labour can lose cautiously or win boldly. Pulling back from Europe to keep Reform UK out is the surest way to let Farage in.

Thereโ€™s a parliamentary debate on Monday offering MPs the first chance to discuss the options Andy Burnham opened the door to in his conference speech. Me for Labour List

Heโ€™s keeps doing us a favour pointing out what a terrible political mistake has just been made. I feel many things right now, including like after the Brexit referendum when one side believed they had won, but both sides had in fact just lost. Years of progress have just been washed away.

Let me try this once more.
It was a choice.
EITHER the Greens adopted a slogan.
OR they could have joined the next govt, where they could push for an end to arms sales, sanctions, support for the arrest warrants etc.
It was never going to be both.
Which one makes a material difference?

My reflections this morning, some thoughts on how we build back better from here, and a message to members and constituents. ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ™

Sian Berry
Green Party MP for Brighton Pavilion
This morning, in what I know is a very initial and uncomprehensive way, I want to offer some of my personal reflections and thoughts on what we do now, in the wake of both conference, last night's by-election, and following the many powerful and heartfelt messages I have received from residents, constituents and party members in recent days.
I am full of regret for so much that has happened, and very sad Zack is not joining me in Parliament next week. Sincere congratulations to Sagal on winning her seat too.
On the motion, I voted and argued against it because I felt it needed serious amendment, and if not then sending back for more dialogue or voting down. But the clash of conference with an exciting and mobilising by-election campaign meant many of us were persuaded not to campaign publicly for these ends, while proposers were very organised and remained intent upon no changes at all.
I want to take my full share of personal responsibility for the result of all this in the votes at conference. I should have worked harder to persuade more of our leading figures to speak up in a unified way to say that the motion as written was clearly not reflective of our values and policy principles.
Both in the words of the motion and in how they have been heard in the country, I can hear genuine worry about what it means for our communities, and can see genuine damage being done to our strong reputation as a leading, principled and inclusive voice for human rights in Palestine and against the atrocities of the Israeli state.
I regret this hugely, and apologise to members and constituents for where we are now as a party, which I know is causing real concern. To Green Party members - especially those for whom thoughts of leaving must have crossed their minds in recent days - I say please stay and let us fix this together.
I am very glad that Zack has now said that he would have voted against the motion as it stood, and that he has agreed we have work now to do. We are not at all where we want to be today, but I know we can build from this starting point if we work together in a new spirit.
I stand ready to work with all my colleagues to restore trust in our processes and our party, fix the serious flaws in the motion that was passed, as well as to restore key policies aimed at inclusive peace-building.
And my principles dictate that I will always want to help find a way to do this work through understanding, listening and consensus building.
To my constituents, I want to reassure you this morning that the party's currently stated policy on this issue does not reflect my values, and that it will make no difference to the inclusive way in which I represent our fantastic, diverse, kind and inclusive community here in Brighton.
With love and respect to all, I look forward to important conversations taking place in the coming days and weeks to find a way to make sure our party is again a unified, enthusiastic and very clear voice for understanding, peace and human rights for all people.
