And when I click "subscribe", I get a page of FAQs - and no way that I can see to actually subscribe.
If the @heraldscotland.bsky.social made the subscription process as high quality as @neilmackay.bsky.social's journalism, (or if it simply worked), it would have at least one new subscriber.
Trying to read an interesting article by @neilmackay.bsky.social. Paywall: "Subscribe to @heraldscotland.bsky.social from ÂŁ1". Fair enough, good deal.
YOU WONT BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!! This page happened, which does not shout the promised "quality journalism".
I’m loving how I can share from @skyreader.app - the text I highlighted is shared as an image which doesn’t use any of the post character limit, and the quoted text is also the alt text! Very cool.
41. Achieving a low-carbon transition, for most countries, will not look like winning a war or marching while waving flags. It is the ability to say "no thank you, we do not want what you are selling" to the petrostates, and walking (or cycling, or taking a bus, or driving an EV) away.
Not at great sign, but probably an excellent idea!
Makes sense! Thanks! (Threaded replies are not @bsky.app’s strong point.)
Powerful stuff! It’s US centric for a US audience, so I’m probably not able to fully appreciate it. I’m puzzled by framing it as a just as a fight. I would have expected more about building support across issues and interest groups in communities on the ground.
HUGE NEWS: A group of top civil rights & free speech lawyers are calling for the $345 MILLION verdict against Greenpeace International and Greenpeace in the US to be overturned. Here’s what really happened and why EVERY activist is at risk 🧵
A fascinating and terrifying legacy. Sadly, probably similar situations today in the places where many of our imports come from.
Thinking of belonging in the vernacular, in Orkney someone might say “[So & so] belongs to [farm or parish name]”, “John belongs to Grimbister”. Messes with the idea that people owning land is the only way of thinking.
Had to look that one up. Not sure Chambers gives me enough detail to understand your post. Could you elaborate a bit?
Sounds weird. I’d write and say “You need more potatoes IN this weather”. Am I the odd one? Is it a date thing?
Great answer! I’ve come to that view myself over the years. Dig where I stand.
🤷🏻‍♂️
In the bigger scheme of things, do you have suggestions on how we might cultivate belongingness at scales beyond the immediate interpersonal?
Thanks @frankrennie.bsky.social! That makes a huge amount of sense, and feels very attractive personally, given my general sense of rootlessness, largely I think due to a childhood across many countries and including a stint in boarding school.
I believe we need to pay more attention to belonging. Not just because of its potential as a tool for good and evil, but at a deeper level because belonging is a fundamental human need that is too often weak or absent from our lives.
What do you think?
Yes indeed! And it’s not a question of me being left behind, it’s me cutting myself off from people and activities that are important to me. It needs a critical mass of people to say “I’ve had enough of Meta!” and switching!
