Switzerland is often too small for its neighbours to notice EXCEPT when it beats France on penalties (SOMMER HÄLT)!

So I find it fascinating that French colleagues like Prof Raul Magni-Berton now draw inspiration from Swiss democracy. Plz join us for the conference I'm organizing @unil.bsky.social!

How cool! So yes you know the smell even much better than I do!!

POV: Something only people who grew up on a farm would understand. Freshly harvested sugar beets („Zuckerrüben“) on freight trains at a main train station in a Swiss city. Most people walk by without noticing. Farm kids? We pause for that unmistakable sweet, earthy smell that feels like home

@larissa-rhyn.bsky.social

To me, Prof Jill Lepore is one of the most intellectually inspiring scholars of our time. What a privilege to hear her in Switzerland! She reminds us what “amend” meant when the US Constitution was adopted & why it is deadly for democracies when constitutional amendment becomes virtually impossible

One year from now, Switzerland will hold its next federal elections. Swiss elections rarely produce spectacular shifts. Change usually comes in small margins. Still, this time it will be very interesting to see how the crumbling mainstream right fares. Honoured to be asked to provide expertise👇🏽

ÉDITORIAL. La succession de Guy Parmelin pose la question des équilibres linguistiques au sein du Conseil fédéral. Si un Alémanique devait le remplacer le 9 décembre prochain, Elisabeth Baume-Schneider serait l’unique...

Remarkable words from outgoing Swiss government member Guy Parmelin, of the far-right SVP: He calls for more women and more young people in the cabinet. With him, Switzerland loses most likely the last SVP voice in govt willing to say such things and to keep his distance from a radicalising party

Just to put the outgoing far-right SVP government member Parmelin into perspective with what an SVP leadership member said today re. the new Swiss-EU package deal: “No country in the world has a treaty like this. Foreign law, foreign judges, foreign penalties: a stranglehand & a colonial treaty“

Thank you, Steffen! Your book is such an incredibly helpful resource. I even did French translations of the « schémas» to visualize the different regimes. Of course all credits to you! bsky.app/profile/gang...

Very compellig, thx! I‘m now teaching for the 1st time a large intro lecture on political regimes. For the 1st time, my teaching is not limited to the democratic universe, so I did much appreciate the guidance in this excellent book, esp by @jacobnyrup.bsky.social www.elgaronline.com/edcollbook/b...

Well put! But also: no other place in Switzerland has such a low vacancy rate, rents have risen by 30% since 2020, only 57% of those living in Zug have political rights, and there are already developments that are pretty much gated communities, 2nd highest population increase of the 26 cantons

@rfrbrghs.bsky.socialOct 4, 2026, 4:00 PM

Thanks so much for sharing, Leo, it looks superb! Now, if I dare asking: How many sessions have you devoted to political regimes? For me, this was tbh quite a difficult decision to take when designing the syllabus
