I ordered FluMist for at-home administration last week. A first! So far I can report that my family of 5 paid $17, medical review and approval was same day, and the shipment should take 10-14 days to arrive (longer than I would have guessed).

We have issued a late breaking update to this report based on US and WHO statements, at end of report.

The flu season seems to be off to an early start in the Northern Hemisphere and scientists are worried about one particular mutation. That means it's a good idea to go get vaccinated as soon as possible!

I wrote about what the early data tell us: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

It looks like we may be headed for an early flu season, especially in the Western region, where test positivity is climbing quickly. www.forceofinfection.com/second-look-...

This is a really important development. It appears H1N1 cases are rising in the western part of the United States, and these viruses have a key HA substitution that @jbloomlab.bsky.social recently demonstrated is targeted by antibodies in young people. 1/4

Covid-19 activity has likely peaked in the South, with other regions still rising. Flu activity is rising steadily but still far below start of flu season. Free national edition + regionals start in about a month. www.forceofinfection.com/sep132026/

It's so ridiculous. Expecting kids to spend all day on screens without getting distracted is the marshmallow test, all day every day.

They are simply too tempting for young brains! Policing device use when they have a legitimate purpose is hopeless.

Our middle school got rid of Chromebooks this year and the experience is already 200% better. Keep classrooms analog.
