Two-thirds of Americans support Medicare for All. Americans are done with a healthcare system that puts profits before people. Medicare for All can save 114,000 lives and $1 trillion a year—turns out, progressive policies can be good politics AND good policy.

This is a major decision that will affect kids, families, and educators across our city. MPS should slow down, hear from more families and educators, and delay the vote so we can get this right.

I’m a proud Minneapolis Public Schools alum and parent. After talking with MPS families, I’m deeply concerned about the district’s current plan to close 14 or more schools.

That’s why protecting access to mifepristone and medication abortion matters. These medications are an essential part of medical care, including during miscarriage. No woman should have to navigate an experience like this without the care and choices she needs.

Like so many women, I’ve experienced a miscarriage. Years ago, when my doctor couldn’t find a heartbeat, I was given medication to help me through it. I was grateful to have access to the care I needed during an incredibly difficult time.

But remembrance must be coupled with action. Every child deserves to feel safe and protected in all spaces. It is up to all of us to ensure this never happens again.

One powerful way to honor and remember them is to show up for others and move your feet. Through service and generosity, we can carry forward the love, courage, and care that have sustained the Annunciation community this past year.
