Bridget Phillipson MP, Chair of the Labour Party calls the 'lethal force' proposal of Jenrick "disgusting and illegal". "Our armed forces are not going to start opening fire on unarmed civilians, and Reform are dragging their own reputations and credibility into the gutter by suggesting it"

Bridget Phillipson MP, Chair of the Labour Party, responding to Robert Jenrick proposing lethal force be authorised in the Channel, said:

"Robert Jenrick's proposal to use 'lethal force' against asylum seekers in the English Channel is disgusting and illegal. Our armed forces are not going to start opening fire on unarmed civilians, and Reform are dragging their own reputations and credibility into the gutter by suggesting it.

"The truth is that Nigel Farage is authorising ever more extreme positions in order to distract from his own funding scandals and as part of an increasingly vicious bidding war with other parties on the right. Decent people will see right through it and reject this toxic politics of division.

“Labour is showing that we can control immigration and get numbers down with serious action, not by abandoning the asylum system altogether. We have just seen the lowest number of summer arrivals by small boat in 6 years, with 46,000 attempted crossings stopped and 80,000 people with no right to be here removed.”

Your 'bonus moment of doom' for today: "A major cyberattack targeting commercial refrigeration systems across France ... Rather than shutting systems off, the attackers remotely reprogrammed cooling regulators to force a continuous defrost cycle, driving internal temperatures up to 50C (122F)."

It's full steam ahead for Oxford Street’s pedestrianisation. More space. Less traffic. This is how we build a high street fit for the future.

You ask me if I write you songs

I'll sing some from before

But here you stand- the lights are on

You're opening the #Door to me

Must it be this way?

Or if I stay
Another day

Then none will be the wiser

I shut the #Door upon the rain
In the morning the snow fell

People are talking to my face
It's still so hard to tell

You

How it is with me

If it cannot be

It is I who am the wiser

The biggest improvements have been in policing and crime. They’ve successfully boosted neighbourhood police officers by ~20%, theft offences have started falling again and knife crime is down ~10% since the election. Public confidence is starting to improve.

Starmer’s government inherited a criminal justice system failing in key areas: poor police investigations, low public trust, spiralling court delays and overflowing prisons. Dealt a bad hand, they've made some progress! They picked the right priorities to focus on, and saw some improvements.
