MSG’s lawsuit against @wired.com targets a core part of journalism: confidential sources.

If MSG’s theory were the law, investigative reporting as we know it couldn’t exist.

Watch @trevortimm.bsky.social explain.

We thought Trump hates the “fake news.” Why’s he starting frivolous investigations to get them to come back? Strange way of telling them how much he misses them.

@freedom.pressOct 11, 2026, 12:12 AM

What nonsense. Trump may view the presidency as a business venture, but news outlets’ standing up for the First Amendment has nothing to do with antitrust law.

A forensic extraction device used by law enforcement and some authoritarian regimes may be able to bypass your iPhone’s automatic reboot feature. Read more about the potential risks from Magnet Forensics’ Graykey in our digital security newsletter.

The government’s argument in defense of Trump’s effort to ban MS NOW, CNN, and Politico claims that publishing national security information breaks the law and that journalists should know that. This is a dangerous argument, FPF's @caitlinvogus.bsky.social explains.

DHS paid Miami-Dade County nearly $15 million for just seven immigrant arrests. Yes, over $2 million per arrest. But when it comes to accountability, DHS can’t even afford basic transparency and instead is sabotaging FOIA offices. Watch @trevortimm.bsky.social explain:

Yes, it does, IDF. You denied killing U.S. reporter Shireen Abu Akleh in 2022 until evidence forced an admission. Then you murdered hundreds of journalists in Gaza and denied it all over again. Want credibility? Let international press into the Strip.

@freedom.pressOct 9, 2026, 4:01 PM

How much does it cost to get information about a cop who punched someone in the face?

About $2.5M, plus 44,816 hours of staff time, according to the Eugene, OR, Police Department.

If that sounds absurd, it’s because it is.

It’s not just press freedom organizations like us. Everyone from Joe Rogan and Glenn Beck to Ted Cruz has had enough of Brendan Carr’s efforts to punish news that Donald Trump doesn’t like. They know that once Carr’s nonsense is normalized, the censorship won’t only be aimed at the left.

@azmatzahra.bsky.social spent 10+ years investigating U.S. airstrikes, where civilians got labeled targets on flimsy intel. She sees that doctrine in Gaza, now aimed at reporters. In these obituaries, Gaza journalist Aseel Mousa spotlights the lives of five Palestinian reporters that label erased.

An amazing moment in our court fight to stop Trump from selling early access to government information.

@freedom.press and @theintercept.com are our great clients, @citizensforethics.org, Yale Media, and Altshuler are our incredible co-counsel. Let's stop massive corruption.

Now in SDNY, the DOJ is trying to justify the $100k Truth Social API.

DOJ: "Presidents are often known by the way they communicate. Roosevelt had his fireside chats ... Trump uses Truth Social."

Judge: "Well, Roosevelt didn't charge money for his fireside chats, did he?"

The government’s argument in defense of Trump’s effort to ban MS NOW, CNN and Politico claims that publication of national security information alone breaks the law and that journalists should know that. This is a dangerous argument. FPF's Caitlin Vogus explains.

“Any time you see a number that ends in a million, it’s a rare example,” FPF's @laurenleharper.bsky.social told Eugene Weekly about the absurd $2.7 million fee for public records.

“Legislators really need to get serious about instituting things like mandatory fee waivers.”

How the government argument for Trump’s media ban threatens the entire free press: The Trump admin could be empowered to prosecute journalists, not just exclude them from the White House, if a court accepts the DOJ’s national security reasoning.

It is hypocritical for cities to use AI for mass surveillance and then turn around and claim their technology is too outdated to fulfill public records requests about said mass surveillance. If you can afford these cameras, you can afford to tell the public about them.

On Sunday, the White House blocked @politico.com from traveling with President Trump aboard Air Force One, amid a lawsuit over presidential access for the outlet and other news organizations.

Politico was scheduled to serve as the primary print outlet in the presidential travel pool.

Presidential statements aren’t merchandise.

That’s why we’re suing Trump for his scheme to sell early access to his posts.

And it’s just one of our nine active lawsuits challenging the admin and its attacks on press freedom — with more on the way.
