You could. Or - in a milder version - give some price invective to board at Stratford

@jonworth.euOct 11, 2026, 10:06 AM

Martin Hoffmann was kind enough to send me some images from Köln Hbf that I have added to my post about whether #CrossChannelRail trains Köln - London could use Gleis 5 there

I am not sure these additions make this option look more viable though! 😄

The very reasons this makes sense for Burnham - geopolitical instability, economic headaches - are precisely the reason EU is in a permanent fire fighting mode And in the end that nags at me. If rejoin isn’t to be a fragile thing, it needs to be done well, carefully. And just now you can’t get that

@jonworth.euOct 11, 2026, 7:22 AM

Reading compelling posts from @samfr.bsky.social @robfordmancs.bsky.social & others about how a rejoin the EU pledge makes sense for Labour. I don’t disagree

And politically this is fine, EU side

But in terms of *how* to proceed, no one has a clue, EU side. No one has head space

@jonworth.euOct 10, 2026, 4:22 PM

It is from before the line opened! And that view is Serbian side

@jonworth.euOct 10, 2026, 11:58 AM

Sure, but then you get into a negative cycle - trust erodes still further.

@jonworth.euOct 10, 2026, 11:50 AM

I have encountered one media organisation - Lonely Planet - that had a solid system to check this with their authors. More ought to do that!

@jonworth.euOct 10, 2026, 11:07 AM

Ob das nun böswillig ist oder nicht, kann ich nicht sagen, aber es funktioniert effektiv, weil viel zu viele Leute zu faul sind, um die Bilder, die sie verwenden, sogar nur oberflächlich zu überprüfen.

@jonworth.euOct 10, 2026, 10:53 AM

This week there have been a couple of cases of politically inappropriate stock photos of trains being used to illustrate stories

Why this matters, and the most common ones to avoid, I have explained in this article: jonworth.eu/how-to-avoid-u…

I assume the “Rail Revolution” in Poland doesn’t involve the Russian Sapsan train pictured? 🤔 https://www.rapporteur.com/interview/time-for-a-rail-revolution-in-poland/

@jonworth.euOct 9, 2026, 5:54 PM

Whatever you call them, every sensible place just numbers tracks. Which is what Poland is moving to do here (the right side of the legend). Their old complex silly system is the left side of the legend.

@jonworth.euOct 9, 2026, 5:46 PM

They’re counting both. And signposting both! See the picture.

@jonworth.euOct 9, 2026, 4:58 PM

Eh? Not from Gleis 5. And you think that given I’ve been researching every aspect of the future of the Channel Tunnel I’m unaware of what was said before?

@jonworth.euOct 9, 2026, 2:06 PM

If there were any information I could use, sure. But is there any info I could even use for such a piece? 🤔

@jonworth.euOct 9, 2026, 2:03 PM

Ha. Yeah. There is no shortage of space for sure! 😄

@jonworth.euOct 9, 2026, 1:59 PM

(Cont) Finger pointing this week: LEO Express blames DB for their fiasco, perhaps they ought look in the mirror A lot of fuss this week: Nothing concrete (yet) about cross border commuter services Irún - Hendaye Photo of the week: Novi Sad station Calendar: Dec launch of Budapest - Beograd trains

A little late this week, but finally the newsletter is out!

Bullshit Meter: Direct Köln-London trains will depart Gleis 5 Köln Hbf

Good week: Finally Poland sees sense with platform numbers

Bad week: DSB slammed by Danish audit office

Bad platform numbers at Krzyz station - maybe a thing of the past

The Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger piece, despite its self confident tone, is full of errors and incorrect assumptions, so I am far from sure that south-north thing makes sense there. Maybe someone said it, but I am absolutely certain the journalist did not really enquire about it.

@jonworth.euOct 9, 2026, 1:31 PM

You noticed how busy Köln Hbf is? So no, no way in the world you get a path for two platforms that long.
