Zelensky: "When our strikes reached Yandex’s data centers, it suddenly became a little easier to breathe on many social media platforms. A lot of people noticed it. There was less hate, less division, and fewer provocations... It’s pretty clear where those bots were coming from."

The Uprising was easily one of my films of the year. Unpredictable, thrilling, visceral, a properly dangerous and grown-up thing. Deserves more love than it's getting.

I think there is a justifiable loophole for this

There are several hills here I am willing to die on. First, that vanilla is almost always the correct choice in a decent ice cream place. Second, that M&S posh-brand vanilla custard is the food of the gods, best eaten while wrapped in a duvet, late at night, watching your favourite film.

@iandunt.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 1:48 PM

I dunno why everyone gives vanilla such a hard time. It's lovely. There's nothing boring about it.

Yes this is the heart of it. Smaller businesses seem to realise that this is the bricks and mortar usp. Larger ones don't, or simply don't care.

there is minimal evidence that inheritors in their 50s and 60s are desperate to move into their parents' former home. My @instituteforgovernment.org.uk on why Kemi Badenoch's policies are for the world of Downton Abbey - not the one we live in now www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/comment/kemi...

Two most important facts: 1) since Trump became President, attacks on Ukraine have grown substantially in volume and scale. 2) Since Trump became President the US has committed zero (yes, zero) new dollars to support Ukraine.

I should be clear that as a card carrying middle aged stereotype, I have learned to love stuff from Marks. Just actually being in there is a bit grim

@iandunt.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 9:57 AM

I like all these shops but they're not helping themselves. If you want to save the high street, you do really need to make visiting your shop more enjoyable than going online.

@iandunt.bsky.socialOct 11, 2026, 9:55 AM

One of the understated aspects of the death-of-the-high-street thing is quite how grim many major high street shops have become. Recently been to a Marks, Clarks, John Lewis, Boots. All of them really quite unpleasant experiences: empty, grimey, horribly lit, hardly any staff.

Also obvious and often forgotten: underlying maths here changed. A lot of people still analyse politics of Brexit as if the split in the public is still 52/48, with leave both an overall majority and more efficiently spread, with most seats majority Leave. None of that true now

Huge respect for Caroline Lucas this week, repeatedly standing up to antisemitic entryism while remaining staunchly critical of Israel and the government's failures on that front. You can see why she used to be leader

@iandunt.bsky.socialOct 10, 2026, 11:24 AM

This is really good. It is precisely the lack of this kind of clear-speaking condemnation within the Green party that makes me nervous about its future.
