When you filter out all the Star Trek posts and viewing guides, one of my most visited posts was about Javier Grillo-Marxuach’s “11 Laws of Showrunning.” Showrunners are invariably writer-producers, and while some…
sometimes when someone asks how i am doing i want to ask “truth or social expediency?” so i know what to do
Not that anyone needs a reminder but this man has the nuclear codes. Far too many people will just shrug this off or find some way to justify it. But Trump is unwell, incoherent, and a danger to us all.
One of the things I always appreciated about Shirer's Rise and Fall of the Third Reich was that he did not waste any opportunity to pound home the point that the core of the party were just a bunch of jumped-up street thugs and petty gangsters, doing exactly what you'd think gangsters would do.
a lot of them aren’t nearly limited enough
okay but hear me out. what if it’s a really nice lawn and it took a lot of work to get it that way?
can somebody tell me why suddenly vistavision is the format of choice for artsy filmmaking? is it just the archness of shooting in a format that was only kept alive by ilm because it’s size helped resolution on composite shots? what am i missing?

Hollywood is a working/middle class industry, with top earners being the recognizable face much the way that tech CEOs are. It is truly truly desperate out there.
The vast majority of creatives are struggling. Writers are leaving LA in droves. Directors are driving Uber when they aren't lucky enough to get gigs directing dubs or subs for foreign films. Recognizable actors are finding jobs they won't be recognized in. The whole industry is shitty right now.
new headshots, who dis?
The nearest thing to art populists like is kitsch, matching their childish narcissism. The rest is something they don't understand and can't control--so they mangle or destroy it in the most philistine way imaginable: www.nytimes.com/2026/09/20/u...
The republicans have no chance of winning the midterms, of course. But I'm not convinced that the democrats won't manage to lose them
i remain incredulous
sure. no training, no discipline, no respect for the experience of others and prone to deeply emotional decisions based entirely on childhood trauma - HAND HIM THE FLAGSHIP!
i dislike the kelvin timeline enormously. i know they were trying to evoke "star wars", but to me what they evoke is soderbergh's "behind the candelabra", a movie about an older man who gives a fancy vehicle to an attractive younger man of no discernible talent, intellect, or ability.
worth it for me, but it's different for everybody
