And it's sad to me to think that that art form probably reached its apex in the 1980s.

Having a campy horror comedy movie night with Ernest Scared Stupid and Little Shop of Horrors. Idk how much of this is "back in my day" nostalgia - digital special effects are incredible! - but there's something about practical effects that they still haven't been able to capture.

As a kid I dreamed of working in special effects, but I've never wanted to see my*self* in movies. If we had IRL holodecks, I can understand the appeal of that as an occasional thing, but I don't think even that would replace "TV" as in stories played out by actors displayed on a screen.

I remember Patrick Stewart telling a story about being in a hotel, flipping through channels on the TV, and stopping to watch a few minutes of TNG. Then room service arrived. And the person delivering his food looked at the TV and back at him like it was the most pathetic thing they'd ever seen.

Did someone say "Ronin scholar?"
