OC-tober Day 6: Strengths & Weaknesses
Uriel isn’t a good leader - he’s shy, can’t stand up for himself well, and makes many mistakes. But he’s been thrust into leadership regardless. His strength lies in his perseverance; despite his many flaws, he keeps trying 💛

Uriel was born into the ruling family of the Light Mages - they’ve fallen into decline in recent years, so while their legacy is foundational to magic itself, their dwindling wealth have left them with little respect from the other mage families. With the introduction of lightning mages came electrical goods, making the light mages’ innovations obsolete. Uriel’s parents, who were both engineers, were on the precipice of reviving their family’s importance - they discovered a mineral that could absorb light magic and hold its illumination much longer and effectively than electric products, making them a more cost-effective solution. Unfortunately, it was realised too late that the mineral was incredibly harmful to humans (similar to magic radiation), and so the project not only failed, but both of Uriel’s parents passed away from the sickness contracted from their exposure (his dad quite quickly, and his mum after a few years). Uriel was thus left to inherit the responsibility of leading the light mages family at only 15. Despite being raised with this in mind, he had never been a prodigal student. The sudden responsibility was overwhelming, and Uriel often cried in his room at the suffocating pressure he’d been shouldered with. Yet despite this, he never allowed himself to falter. He felt a sense of duty, to carry the torch his parents had bestowed on him, even if it was hard. He couldn’t give up on the dream they had died for, no matter what. Over time, Uriel learns that it’s ok to rely on others and share your burden. Instead of trying to do everything himself and perceiving his inadequacies, he is able to find advisors and appoint experts to help achieve his parents’ vision together. Uriel’s friends made his realise that he didn’t have to carry the burden of restoring the legacy of the light mage family alone; that many of his fellow family members would also do everything in their power to bring that dream to fruition.
