It's Streamplace's second birthday! Decided to share an essay I've been sitting on for some time, explaining my thinking on Streamplace's place in the world as a product and company. The question: is Streamplace for end users or developers? And the answer: very both.

My support for bluesky/atproto is pretty much explicitly a "political" project. It is bad for a small number of (mostly right-wing) people to literally own all the sources of media. Open-source algorithms + the ability to move your account without negative network effects opposes this.

To be fair it's no more or less secure for their first-party users; Toni and/or Rudy have root access to your account with your only recourse being PLC rotation. I'm honestly coming around to the idea of PDS providers blessing certain apps to ease onboarding
