Screams from the netherworld of fandom. I tweet about random shit and stuff.
Worldbuilding stuff? Linking to other King stuff?
Trans people can be barred from both toilets now, one for being the 'wrong' sex and one for looking like the wrong sex. As in a trans man can be barred from the mens for being a woman and from the womens for looking like a man.
Section 28, yep thats true. As I understand it mistakes can;t be corrected because trns people could argue that theirs were mistakes. which is exactly the loophole trans people used before 1970.
Can't wait to see Carrie. Love Flanagan, tho I'm not loving what I've heard about it from comments. Not sure why anyones supposed to 'love' carrie, sympathise yeah, hate the others more, yeah but love her? She's a f-ing school shooter! Maybe it works better in the show itself I dunno.
If someone asks “what rights don’t trans people have?” you can point out that it is essentially legal to kill trans people.
This case was a woman who was murdered, and the killer was convicted, but the conviction was overturned because the victim was trans.
(by the way this is the same lawsuit that confirmed that gay marriage was illegal in the UK. Prior to this it had never technically be tested in court. Because they can't even be subtle about transphobia and homophobia being linked.)
Trans people are just beneath their notice. A non-event, a vote to be harangued not a person. They'd do the same thing to their cis voters if they could get away with it.
And cis people who have typos on their birth certs cant change anything, because if they could then trans people could rightly sue for discrimination.
This has resulted in the situation where a trans woman can marry as a woman (with her new cert) and be barred from the toilets at the reception (because her OG cert says she's a man).
In 2005 they changed the law to let trans people change their birth certs. In 2025 rich asshole sued and now the only birth cert that really matters is the OG one (except for wedding and death certs)
The UK used to allow people to change their birth certs, then in 1970 a rich asshole decided he didn't want to pay his trans wife alimony so sued to have her declared a man. He won. Many trans peoples lives and marriages were destroyed.
Reminder that "biological sex" is not a thing that exists. It is a legal fiction in every place that refers to it. In the UK, in the equality act, it means "the sex that was written on your original birth certificate." Incidentally, it doesn't matter if that's due to a clerical error.
The one group that transphobia is overwhelmingly popular with is financially well-off, insular weirdos in media and politics. democratic politicians who are doing transphobia want to do it. Its not bad strategy, they're being who they are.
