Ahh, my consolation prize to myself for missing out on MIGW arrived. Now I can get racing and see all the buzz for myself!
You know that horror movie, Smile? Well my smile was bigger after playing this at PAX....
I tend to work slower - but that’s part of processing (got burned in an early job where I had to extend a system, and despite a bunch of precautions, things went wrong in prod). It’s always been a neat mental puzzle for me, and to see “experts” not care or just rush is tiring.
I dread to think of how much code for we’re going to get over the next few years from things coded in this way. I dread the technical debt we will all have to repay from such short-sighted visions to line the pockets of a bunch of oligarch cunts. No wonder people increasingly hate tech.
I don’t wanna gatekeep, but programming is meant to be hard. It’s meant to be a damn process which involves plenty of thought and planning to build software, or libraries which can be maintained down the line. Throwing your hands up and letting the slop machine handle it does not guarantee quality.
“Programming is hard.” I cannot in all seriousness take a company seriously that sells middleware while spouting nonsense like that.
ARCHIPELAGOS is an Atari ST game I've always been curious about, but was always concerned it would be complex and confusing. It's a lot more straightforward than I thought it was, but thoroughly compelling and atmospheric. A real treat to play for the first time! www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfHR...
Oh, I absolutely did. You both managed to wrangle together some great folks for some great pieces. (And I had quite a chuckle at that prompt, thankfully there was no need for complaints for me…)
Yuss. I spy a copy of @continuemag.bsky.social. Guess that’s some afternoon reading sorted.
New Ancient DOS Games Shareware Edition video uploaded and ready to watch! youtu.be/wfA3aE7s_RU
Shouldn't be much of a surprise based on the last few days, but I'm not going to have a video ready for this month thanks to all the distractions.
(And will be pausing payments on Patreon as a result for those paying supporters as a result…)
Thanks! Nice to be back again, and to focus on recovery and stuff. 🖤
I’m home. Actually back home. Took so much of the damn day waiting about to get my meds, and go through shit, but here at last. (Thanks for tolerating the posts over the last few days, just been a hard one emotionally dealing with it…)
RT if you've never had a tab of ChatGPT open, full stop.
Time for another trip into the Atari 8-bit library, this time with a game I've never tried before: DESMOND'S DUNGEON, which is a really fun arcade-style platformer! www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DGp...
Hopefully it won’t be too long once I’m home, but I’ve won’t know until I’m there and I know what other things I might need to deal with :)
Thanks. Have been able to do some light gaming - the Pocket has been a good companion.
Thanks. It’s more I got news yesterday that it was supposed to be discharge day today, but that didn’t happen because abuse of organisational stuff and it’s been held to tomorrow. It’s been a long time, and I just want to get home to start recuperating there.
I was so wrong about that news - I thought I’d be discharged today, but turns out I couldn’t get time with the folks to talk about post stuff stuff, so it’s one more night and officially 7-days. Unsurprisingly, cried a bunch.
The Atari ST and Amiga offered great new possibilities for games, but for years those games couldn't compete with the old 8-bit machines in the charts. In 1988, a pioneering 3D space game helped to change that.
