@rachelrcreates.bsky.socialNowadays, I tend to work more on my iPad than in traditional media. Would I be able to create characters with the same pencil and paper feel? I think I did! Yay! It's always my goal for my illustrations to feel like traditional media, even when rendered using my Apple pen and iPad to draw them.
@rachelrcreates.bsky.socialI made the illustration using traditional mixed media - she's colored pencil - but I made the illustration by scanning all the elements and layering them on top of each other. So she's also her own thing! I've always loved her, but I've been unsure what else to do with her. Then, inspiration hit!

@rachelrcreates.bsky.socialI worked at Shedd Aquarium many years ago. Some mornings/evenings I was posted at the beluga habitat before the guests arrived or when most had left, and I would get to chill with the belugas by myself. Watching them swim and play together was simply beautiful.
