This article demeans National Geographic, making one wonder what commercial considerations are shaping scientific content. They call into question editorial practices—did they think about having a scientist not profiled here evaluate these absurd statements? 11/n
I am a long time subscriber to National Geographic. National Geographic generally does a superb job of covering complex scientific topics. However, The End of Aging” in the September issue was a dramatic deviation from this record. 1/n
That would be useful!
One of the things I've thought about doing is tracing Peter Thiel's connections to the new nuclear power companies. Even that is a lot. His money is behind a number of them. Not good.

Cute little Greenops boothi trilobite fossil from the Devonian of New York.
Exactly!
Over on X, the “rigged election” crowd is pushing rumors around a video livestream clip of election workers, working late at night, allegedly doing something nefarious. Maricopa officials have explained that the workers are just… doing their jobs. But rumors around the video continue to swirl.
I don't understand why I have to take 10,000 trainings about computer and communication security, while the most powerful and influential people on the planet are like "let me hook my phone to the gremlin interface: gremlins, I'm releasing you into my private data, please only act cool"
I look forward to the day we don't have to piece together various public figures' relationships to a Bay Area shitty blogging group.
Ok, a bit of digging and Bankman-Fried/William MacAskill might have been something of a countervailing force for EA against groups like LessWrong. RationalWiki has some of the links between people/organizations that might be useful....
To the point a lot of EA organizations weren't able to pay their rent anymore.
If it's EA stuff, doesn't a lot of that go back to Sam Bankman-Fried's money and attempt to influence things? At the time he collapsed, it certainly seemed he was the main funder for that stuff....
What's disturbing is that they are infiltrating the "normie" think tanks. This one is at RAND. Another is a VP at the Nuclear Threat Initiative. Those are the organizations we have depended on to give us independent evaluations of technology and national security. They are being corrupted.
We need a guy with red yarn and a lot of stickies to figure out the connections between the weirdo fanatics in Silicon Valley and the think tanks.
"How are we doing? Fuck you, that's how." 🪶
Science!
*stares meticulously at the stock photo* You know what, I think it might be a good thing we're missing out on what all is going on in that.
